Adrien Silva his the only portuguese player called for the U 18 European team the will participate against other continent's, the tournament will take place in the Meridian Cup in Barcelona between Feb 27 and March 1.

O jogador da Selecção Nacional Sub-18, Adrien Silva, foi chamado a representar a Selecção Europeia que vai disputar a Meridien Cup juntamente com uma selecção de jogadores africanos.

Adrien Silva foi o único jogador português chamado à Selecção Europeia Sub-18 que será orientada pela equipa técnica espanhola composta por Iñaki Sáez (treinador principal), Ginés Meléndez e Juan Santisteban (treinadores adjuntos). A escolha dos jogadores foi efectuada pelo departamento técnico da UEFA, durante o Torneio de Elite de sub-17, que decorreu entre Março e Maio de 2006,

Adrien Silva quer adaptar-se rapidamente e corresponder às expectativas

Em declarações ao ‘fpf.pt’, Adrien Silva considera que “é um grande orgulho representar Portugal numa Selecção Europeia em que, por certo, estarão os melhores jogadores da Europa.” O jogador luso, que conta com 22 internacionalizações (3 nos Sub-16, 17 nos Sub-17 e 2 nos Sub-18), pensa “que ao princípio a integração pode ser difícil num grupo em que estão jogadores de tantas nacionalidades, no entanto espero integrar-me bem. A língua pode ser um obstáculo, mas penso que todos vão fazer todos os possíveis para que nos possamos entender.”

O facto da equipa técnica ser espanhola pode facilitar o entendimento, no entanto Adrien Silva nunca defrontou, no seu percurso pelas selecções, a Espanha, pelo que não conhece pessoalmente os técnicos.

“É sempre bom participar em eventos de grande gabarito”, considera Adrien Silva prometendo “dar o máximo para não desiludir ninguém. Espero integrar-me bem e estar a um bom nível, pois poderá ser um marco bastante positivo na minha ainda curta carreira de futebolista.”

Jogos em Barcelona

A concentração dos jogadores será efectuada no dia 26 de Fevereiro, em Barcelona. Os jogos serão disputados no Mini Nou Camp, propriedade do FC Barcelona, nos dias 27 de Fevereiro (pelas 18h30) e no dia 1 de Março de 2007 (pelas 11h00).

A Meridien Cup é uma prova organizada em conjunto pela UEFA e pela CAF que será disputada em dois jogos por uma selecção de jogadores europeus e por uma outra constituída por jogadores africanos. Esta será a primeira vez que a prova será disputada nestes moldes.

yep, well he could play for France since he is born there.

But I guess Portugal is lucky to have such a promising young player willing to play for the team.

His last name is Silva, so is father is likely Portuguese. you know the Portuguese guys always pick up the blonde girlados. (Jec1 classic term)

I have high hopes for him.

Perhaps he will be Portugal's future playmaker in the NT.
