Well done lads.We go there knowing even a 2-1 or 3-2 loss will do.The main thing about Europe is not conceding at home.Any goals are a bonus, and we got both.

I'm not a Sporting fan, but Sporting going to come out like a bunch of lions, the first 25 minutes of the game going to be very important for Newcastle

sporting have showed all the technical inadequacies of english football, yet boro and newcastle have shown all the organisational and physical deficiencies of portugese football.
fuse the two and you have spanish football.

i'm confident we can go through (although isaid that bout the villa game), good that we kept a clean sheet and liedson is a massive loss and they wouldnt have looked threatening at all if he weren't playing. 2-1 loss would do, but i think we can keep another clean sheet, if andy o'brien can cut out mistakes . Stevie taylor looked very good in the game, showing his credentials as a centre back.

Newcastle arrived in Portugal 2 1/2 days before game, Mr Souness ex coach of Benfica loves to be with his friends, he loves the portuguese climate.

Sporting -4-Newcastle -1
great win for Portuguese Soccer, on goals by Niculae, Sa Pinto, Beto and Rochemback, Sporting playing without Enakarine, Liedson and Hugo Viana.
Sporting was losing at one time 0-1- 0-2 in two legs
U18 Moutinho was just great

We were poor in the second half and sporting fully deserved it. But i think that if dyer had been able to stay on it may have been different, his pace had the defence terrified and were more catious, but when he left, we had no attacking presence. But i agree moutinho looked very good in the second half.
