Manuel Fernandes was the best player in last week's derby
Benfica vs Sporting

by Benfica improving his finances in the last couple years, will see more players staying home, only if the price is right

i disagree....he is a tough little bugger and juninho, zola and wise have proven small players can dominate the english league.....

thankfully rafa benitez and jose mourinho have brought much needed tactical finesse to our game and we have a league that, despite enjoying the physical nature of the game, is no longer decided on who is the strongest and fittest.

Yeh really look at the stats:

Everton points total for example if you take that points total to 1997 you will be in 9th place. The last two seasons the level has been very poor and you just have to look at the runs of the top teams and the amount of points WBA needed to stay up, if they didnt have a great run at the end, it could have been 30 points to stay in the league. Dippers the champions of europe lost 14 games, two more then WBA. They finished closer to the relegation battle then to the top.

Its no shock that there has been records broken in the last two seasons because of how poor the quality of the premiership is. Just look at every team having 10 players behind the ball when they play the top 3.

yeah...bigger gap between the top and bottom teams now...strength in depth is now a necessity not a luxury.

but if you analyse the qualities of the starting XI's of a mid table team like villa compare them to villa 5 years ago....the villa team now wins....easily.

That is total nonsense the team qualities dont have to do with anything if they all play 10 players behind the ball, villa aint the best example to use as there chairman cant do anything right and they have an over rated manager who is useluss with cash.

If you compare a lot of teams how they used to play and how they play now, it would be a lot attacking 5 years ago.

Just look at the goalscoring charts, take henry out and the rest of chart is very very poor for strikers scoring goals. I remember every season we used to have 5 or 6 players scoring 20+ goals. This season Henry who has it is easy due to the team around him and the style they play but take that out, just look at where the next good example is. Johnson 18 goals(8 pens).
