Depending on how you count them either Diogo or Cannavaro has the worst discipline record this season.

Cannavaro has 12 yellows and Diogo has 10 yellows although including cup he has much more. Diogo has also been banned for more games than anybody else, with 7 matches suspended compared to the nearest of 3.

The link between them is that although playing for different clubs at the moment, they are both under contract with Real Madrid, the club that came bottom of fair play last season....

that's very interesting, they were talking a lot about it here.
here's another thing me and my friend noticed:
the EPL 2006/07:
1. Manchester
2. Chelsea
3. Liverpool
4. Arsenal

La Liga 2006-07:
1. Real
2. Barca
3. Sevilla
4. Valencia

( "same" teams in the same ranks.. ) liverpool <-> sevilla since non of them had won the title in 7 years.

According to a CIS survey, Real Madrid is the favourite team among Spaniards

According to a survey by the Sociological Investigation Centre (CIS), Real Madrid is the favourite team among Spanish football fans. FC Barcelona come in a close second, seven points behind Real Madrid, while Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, and Atletico Madrid follow. According to the survey, sports are the preferred topic of discussion for Spaniards and they are what Spaniards are most informed about. It also reveals that more than half the Spanish population has bought at least one box office ticket to attend a football match.

Its more that catalunya hates Spain.

Barcelona are the second biggest city in Spain and it lives many millions in Catalunya...so its not that surprising. I've heard FCB are very popular in Mallorca too.

- Osasuna is Basque for "Health"

- The most popular occupation for a Spanish Primera President is a lawyer. There are more lawyers than any other occupation through the Presidents of the Primera clubs. Some examples are Joan Laporta (Barcelona), Ramon Calderon (Real Madrid), Jose Maria del Nido (Sevilla) and Ana Urkijo (Bilbao) who were all lawyers before becoming Presidents.

- Ana Urkijo is the only female President in La Liga for a team in possibly the most right wing area of Spain, Athletic Bilbao in the Basque Country. She is Bilbao's first ever female President but won't be around for much longer as in a month a new President will be announced after the elections and she isn't standing this time round.

- Atletico Madrid was formed as an arm of Atletic Bilbao and it took them 18 years to become independent of Atletic Bilbao (in 1921).

Real Madrid's 20 million European supporters are the most of any team on the continent

Real Madrid is the team with the most fans in Europe. About 20 million people consider themselves Madridistas; half of them live in Spain. F.C. Barcelona are second with 19 million -mostly aroad-, and Juventus came in third with 12 million fans.

With 20 millions fans in Europe and a dominating brand, Real Madrid are still the "Kings" of football on the Old Continent, at least according to the "European Football" survey carried out by the company SportFive in the five main football markets in Europe (England, France, Alemania Germany, Italy, and Spain), which include 162 clubs.
According to the survey, Real Madrid have 10 million fans in Spain and another 10 million scattered around Europe. The 20 million exceeds the 19.3 million Barcelona fans -of which 60% are foreigners-, and the 12 million Juventus supporters –76% Italians-. Milan have 9.2 million supporters -60% from across the border- and Inter have 7.6 million fans, 80% of whom live in the country.

SportFive's survey included 19 market parameters including number of fans, stadium capacity, and TV and sponsor revenue, among others.

"Clubs still operate like medium-sized companies," said SportFive Manager Katrin Schnabel after the results were made official. Of note, Real Madrid's superiority over Manchester United and Barcelona in terms of revenue generated by TV and commerical advertising.

Bayern Munich are fourth and reigning European champions Milan are fifth -but first in Italy-. Fellow Italians Inter are eighth and Juventus didn't even fall into the top ten.

The survey also revealed that among the estimated 177 million football fans in Europe, Italy shows "the greatest interest" in football with 40 million aficionados, 44% of whom are women.

According to SportFive, more than three-fourths of the European population watch football on TV at least once or twice each week, and 23% of those who participated maintain that too many games belonging to their national competition are broadcast and that they would like to see more matches from other countries.

Interesting stats. Milan and Barca have majority foreign supporters then. This could be down to their recent CL success as at the end of the 04/05 season when Liverpool won the CL, it was Real Madrid first, Barca second and Liverpool third which would suggest a lot of new supporters after the CL win.

Historical leader

Real Madrid top most of the rankings in Spain

The 77th season of the Spanish League kicks-off on Saturday with Real Madrid as defending champions, after winning the title a couple of months ago in one of the tightest campaigns in the history of the competition.

The first ever Matchday of the Spanish League took place on 10 February 1929. At first, only ten teams participated, and throughout the years Real Madrid have become the true kings of the championship, leading every single ranking in Spain. A total of Fifty-five teams have played in the First Division in all these years and Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao are the only three never to have been relegated.
More titles
Real Madrid have won 30 of the 76 seasons of the League (40%), twelve more than runners-up Barcelona. Atletico Madrid are third in the ranking with 18 titles, Athletic Bilbao fourth with 8, and Valencia fifth with 6. Real Sociedad have won 2, and Sevilla, Betis and Deportivo one each.

The Whites have finished second 17 times, sometimes losing the title by goal-average. They've been third seven times. They've been in the top three 54 out of the 76 seasons.

More points
Real Madrid also top the points ranking with a total of 3,487, followed by Barcelona with 127 less. Athletic Bilbao are third with 2,818 points, 669 less than the Whites. Five other teams have taken more than 2,000 points: Valencia (2,789), Atletico Madrid (2,740), Espanyol (2,324), Sevilla (2,201) and Real Sociedad (2,198). The latter will play in the Second Division this campaign.

The ranking counts all the points earned by the teams in the First Division. In the old days, only two points were awarded per victory, which explains why teams that have done well in the last ten years may be higher on the list that sides which were successful over ten years ago.

More victories
Real Madrid have won 1,363 out of the 2,382 matches they've played in the League; 63 and 308 more than Barcelona and Athletic, respectively. Real Madrid have only lost 513 fixtures, less than any other Club to have played in more than 40 seasons. In other words, the Madridistas have only lost 21 out of every 100 fixtures.

More goals
The Whites have scored a total of 4,914 in the Spanish competition, 55 more than Barcelona and 791 more than Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid are also the team to have conceded the least number of strikes out of the Clubs to have participated in over 60 editions of the championship -only 2,759, 43 less than Barcelona.

So far, Real Madrid have had the largest number of top-socrers in the League (23):
