Baird
Southampton have allowed right back Chris Baird to remain on loan at Vicarage Road for the rest of the season.
The defender’s initial one month deal was due to expire after Saturday – but he will now be free to play in the Hornets final four games of the campaign against Millwall, Norwich, West Ham and Reading.
“He’s a quality player, a quality lad and we’re grateful to Southampton for allowing him to stay for the remaining games because we’re going to need him,’’ said manager Ray Lewington. “He’s got better and better during his time here.
“As soon as he puts the shirt on you get 100 per cent commitment from him – he’s a Watford player and you can see that in his play. We’re very pleased with him, he’s starting to get forward more now and his passing is getting better and better.’’
“He feels much more a part of it now,’’ added Lewington.
“When you first arrive at a new club it’s hard because you don’t know anyone and the football may be different to the type you are accustomed to. It can take time to settle in but he’s done that very quickly.
“He was terrific against Burnley on Monday and we’re expecting that much again from him in the remaining games.’’
