Heat on former FA chairman Wiseman as he clings to power at Southampton
Quote:
Former FA chairman Keith Wiseman, who was forced out of office after a cash-for-votes scandal with Wales following a botched attempt by him to become a FIFA vice-president, is embroiled in further controversy as he clings to power at Southampton.
Wiseman, leading the crisis club as acting chairman of Southampton Leisure Holdings plc, has been ignoring demands for his resignation from the former Southampton club chairmen duo of Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde.
Their 46 per cent shareholding alliance makes a takeover inevitable.
Lowe has now written an official letter to the beleaguered club reminding them that they have until Monday to set a date for a general meeting of shareholders, who will vote Lowe and Wilde back into the St Mary's boardroom.
Otherwise, the Wiseman-led board will be in breach of their duties under the 2006 Companies Act.
Lowe writes: 'I do not believe this outcome would reflect well on any member of the existing board, particularly those with public responsibilities.'
That is a clear reference to the embarrassment breaking the Companies Act would cause Wiseman in his role as Southampton coroner.
It was Wiseman's sale of Southampton shares to Wilde, at vast profit, that paved for the way for the boardroom coup against Lowe two years ago.
