Default Southampton v Hull

Quote:
George Burley's team returned to winning ways with victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek, but the Scot has a number of concerns for his team's next league engagement.

Grzegorz Rasiak, Gareth Bale and Nathan Dyer must undergo fitness tests ahead of the match, but John Viafara is definitely after being laid low by a virus.

Hull duo Danny Mills and Ian Ashbee miss the trip to Southampton through suspension - but new loan signing Jason Jarrett goes straight into the squad.

Tuesday's win at Southend was only Hull's third in 15 Championship games and lifted Phil Parkinson's men off the foot of the table at the expense of The Shrimpers.

Hull's Saints row played down

Quote:
George Burley and Phil Parkinson played down a touchline row at the end of Hull City's 0-0 draw at Southampton.

Saints' assistant manager Glynn Snodin was sent to the stands towards the closing stages of the St Mary's stalemate.

Snodin appeared to react furiously to a collision with Hull's Craig Fagan, leading to Tigers boss Parkinson becoming involved.

But Parkinson was quick to dismiss the seriousness of the bust-up and preferred to focus on an important away point for his team.

"It was jovial banter," said Parkinson. "This was a good performance, disciplined throughout.

"It was important after winning at Southend to get something here at Southampton and we managed it.

"Our back four did exceptionally well to cope with all the pressure they came under and Danny Coles was excellent bearing in mind he had trained very little because of injury.

"We have given ourselves a platform now because we have home games coming up against Wolves and Stoke, but we are not getting carried away."

Southampton chief Burley also brushed off the incident and was left to rue a string of missed chances for his side.

Burley said: "It was nothing. It was slightly blown out of proportion and there were no problems between me and Phil Parkinson, who is an old friend.

"We had seven or eight decent half-chances, hit the post and had one cleared off the line.

"I felt that if we had got one goal, we would have got another four or five. It was a frustrating game because we had total domination.

"We had two young strikers up front who did well in the week when we beat Wolves, but maybe it was asking too much for them to succeed twice in three days.

"We tried to play the right way by passing the ball and in the end we just could not break them down."
