Default Burley: We could have won

Quote:
Southampton boss George Burley could not believe his side lost at Leicester.

The Saints were never ahead at The Walkers Stadium as John Viafara and Inigo Idiakez both levelled Iain Hume strikes, but they had no answer for Richard Stearman's effort which proved the matchwinner.

"We didn't play well in the first half but after the break I thought there was only going to be one winner, and that was us," said Burley.

"In the second half we got our passing game going and went on to dominate. The boys are in the changing room asking how they managed to lose.

"But we showed we are capable of going anywhere in the league and creating chances."

Leicester boss Rob Kelly insists that he was always confident of victory.

"I told the players it would suit us playing Southampton because George Burley would come here to win the game," he said.

"Instead of setting their stall out for a draw the game was much more open, allowing us to score some goals."

Kelly paid tribute to two-goal hero Hume.

"I'm very pleased with Iain Hume because he works very hard on the training ground and today he got his reward.

"It's the hardest thing in football to score goals and that's why strikers are paid the most money."

Meanwhile, Kelly also confirmed that captain Paddy McCarthy had broken his nose.

"Paddy broke his nose, had to have some stitches and has a badly swollen face," he said.

"He's quite a mess and must be a doubt for the game at Leeds on Tuesday."
