Burley: Bale going nowhere
Quote:
Southampton boss George Burley has stated that teenage starlet Gareth Bale will remain at St Mary's.
The 17-year-old has been an early-season revelation in The Championship this term with his free-kick strikes for Saints.
His performances have prompted speculation that the talented left back may follow former Southampton star Theo Walcott in going through the St Mary's exit door to a top-flight club.
The Wales international has been the subject of reported interest from Premiership giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, but Burley insists the club have no interest in selling the teenager.
"Gareth is a different scenario (to Walcott)," Burley told Sky Sports News.
"I had a good chat with his parents in the summer. They are certainly keen for Gareth to stay here for a numbers of more years yet.
"Gareth is 17. He's signed a professional contract (until 2008), so we're not under pressure to sell him.
"There's areas in the game in which he can improve but basically, he's got all the attributes of being a top-class full back, so I think he's got a big future in front of him."
