Saints sign Makin
Quote:
Southampton have signed veteran defender Chris Makin from Reading on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old signed a two-year deal after starting just 11 league games for the Royals last season.
Saints boss George Burley, who managed Makin at Ipswich, said: "We've been saying since the summer that we need to strengthen the squad at the back.
"Chris can play across the back four, he's a good experienced pro and will give us a bit of leadership as well."
Makin is an experienced full-back who can play on either flank.
He started his career at Oldham before a short spell in France with Marseille.
Makin then enjoyed nearly four years at Sunderland before moving to Ipswich and then Leicester.
He had a brief loan spell at Derby before joining Reading on a free transfer.
