Benfica anuncia primeira edição da Eusébio Cup com Inter de Mourinho
O Benfica confirmou esta segunda-feira que o jogo de apresentação aos sócios será com os holandeses do Feyenoord às 19h45 de 9 de Agosto, informação que já tinha sido tornada pública pelo clube de Roterdão.
Na semana seguinte, a 15 de Agosto, o clube da Luz recebe o Inter Milão de José Mourinho, num jogo, ainda sem hora marcada, que vai assinalar a primeira edição da Eusébio Cup, um torneio que vai passar a realizar-se todos os anos em homenagem ao legado do Pantera Negra.
A primeira edição da Eusébio Cup vai ser disputada num único jogo, mas nas edições seguintes o formato deverá evoluir para um torneio quadrangular. Este jogo pode, no entanto, sofrer alterações no calendário, dependendo das decisões do Tribunal Arbitral do Desporto quanto à participação do F.C. Porto na Liga dos Campeões.
O Benfica inicia a preparação da nova temporada a 8 de Julho, com a realização dos habituais exames médicos no centro de estágios do Seixal.

O Benfica vai receber a 15 de Agosto, no Estádio da Luz, o Inter, treinado actualmente por José Mourinho, num jogo, ainda sem hora marcada, mas que vai assinalar a primeira edição da Eusébio Cup, um torneio que passará a realizar-se todos os anos embora o seu formato deva evoluir para um torneio quadrangular. Do you remember Eusebio coming here with Damas, Alvaro Magalhaes, Seninho, etc to Harrison's stadium? Back in '94? If so, my team opened up for them, I scored 3 goals in about 15 minutes and the coach took me out for child abuse

Quique Flores promises a strong, first choice team that will make the fans proud in this tournament. To date he has not fielded the best players that Benfica have for obvious reasons but in short time we will see. He likes playing 4-4-2 so you can only imagine what will line up.
He also stated that a new system and training methods are in place.

Benfica Vs. Inter for the first Eusebio cup will take place this Friday. The game will be on T.V., most likely SIC or RTP, more will be reported later.
As stated before hand a strong team will be put out and the game is meant to honor Benfica Legend Eusebio as well as a pre-season. Mourinho's Inter vs. Flores' Benfica.

The game is on SIC but only in Portugal. Mourinho has been saying he is happy to be returning to The Luz and thinks Benfica is making a good team and Quique Flores is a good coach. Should be a great meeting between the two as Quique said he respects Mourinho and identifies with him as they are both talented young coaches. Around 50,000 are expected in the stands.

The match finished 0-0 then Inter won in the penalty shoot-out.
I didn't watch the match so I have no idea how either side played.

Benfica did not look out of place against Inter. The teams were pretty evenly matched, no goals though but defenses were on top.
Katsouranis, Luisao and Leo had great games in defense and Martins is turning out to be the heart of the team in pre-season, he drives the team foward and the fans have taken to him around despite his history at Sporting.
Highlight for Benfica was Cardozo hitting the bar after a great volley.
The shootout was disappointing as Nelson and Bastos missed their penalties and we lost but the game was still great.
Quique Flores said he was going to make us competitive and by the strength of this game he was proven right.
