Benfica pass on Queiroz
Benfica want Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz as their next boss, according to reports.
It is reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola that a meeting between Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira and former player Rui Costa is due to take place this week.
. The objective of this meeting would be to devise a strategy by which Queiroz could be lured away from Old Trafford to take over at Benfica next season - with Rui Costa in a sporting director role.
Queiroz - who had a brief spell in charge of Real Madrid - admits he has been interested by Benfica in the past, but insists there has been no contact with the Portuguese giants.
"I won't ever say never, but there have been no discussions or talks," Queiroz is quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.
"Benfica was of interest to me in the past but I am at Manchester United and there are many more challenges in front of me."

I can see Zacheronni coming but no chance for Queiroz, Queiroz is happy at Man U and is probably next in line to take Fergie's spot when he retires.

Show him the money and give him the power and he will come. Now if you offer him penuts, then he would be nuts to come. I do think he would come though.

It would be great for Benfica if Queiroz coached them, but as Eurodad said, they would have to pay him quite a bit.

The Manchester United assistant manager has been widely tipped to take the managerial post at the Estádio da Luz ever since José Antonio Camacho resigned as coach earlier this month.
But the Portuguese tactician has denied such claims, revealing that he has not held talks with anyone from Benfica about a move to the Lisbon club.
"This is something I do not want to talk about, because I do not want to contribute to speculations concerning Benfica, a great club and institution," he said.
"Every statement released by the Portuguese press in direct speech is false," he continued. "I have never commented on Benfica's current situation to anyone.
"But it is always an honour and a privilege to know that a great institution like Benfica may ponder on my name to serve their needs."

I knew they would never get him
He of course would stay at Man U. and become manager after Fergie retires.
O think he is there for the money and fame.
