I'm sure the $ will increase, but there is no guarantee that Adu cracks the starting 11 at Benfica. He had a very nice showing at the U-20 but Benfica is the real deal. It would be a great challenge for him and I think the environment would suit him well. The issue is, does he have the skills to play at this level CONSISTENTLY. I say he does but that really doesn't mean anything now, does it?!

Even if he isn't able to play full time with the first team, he's still going to get excellent training with one of the best teams in Iberia. At 18, thats all we can really expect. Hopefully it'll open the doors for Spain.

The striker position for Benfica is one that IMO is wide open this year. Our coach though does not have a vary good track record for playing young players. That bugs the hell out of me, but maybe he will change. The Portugal league would give him huge exposure to the rest of Europe. I think it would be a great move for him.

That would be huge for Adu. He would get great training in good facilities and play in a much more competetive league.

Would be a great pick up but the striker position is loaded this year. Not sure if Adu would get a game ahead of Cardozo, Bergisso, Nuno Gomes and not to mention Mantorras and Dabao. Maybe Adu can play on the wing?
I've been very impressed with Adu in the World Cup. He has loads of Speed and I love the way he takes on players.
Imagine this 4-4-2 line-up
---------------------Bergisso----Cardozo-------------------------
Simao---------------------------------------------------------Adu
-----------------Katsouranis----Manuel Fernandes------------
Leo--------------Luisao-------------Luiz------------------Nelson
----------------------------Moreira--------------------------------
With that said I'm surprised he hasn't attracted interest from other clubs.**One thing for sure is that Benfica are scouting players from the MLS. We've previousy shown interest in Eddie Johnson and purchased Thornton 2 seasons ago.

That is true Frank, but that is also assuming that Benfica do not sell any more players. We dont know for sure that Benfica will not sell any of there wingers....... like you know who.

ADU would be the player to play the #10 position
we can't afford of going another season with Rui Costa in and out of the lineup, and Nuno Gomes instead of playing the striker position, playing the play make position, he would be welcome, but I don't think the MLS will sell him for nothing less then 10 million euros

I think that if benfica were to offer 6 million, they can get him. Thats just my opinion. Chelsi I dont think so. More like Man U but even them are done buying young players for this year, I think. Im not saying that Benfica will get him for sure, but it does seem that they are trying. This would be a much smarter thing to do (sign young talented players) than signing older average players that come to us and do nothing for us.

Sorry Frank, I nearly edited your post instead of quoting it. Sorry, accident on my part. I trully hope that our team wakes up and starts investing in youth. Maybe this is a start. I hope
