It is being reported that MLS want 7.5 million for him. If that is Euros, we can forget about it, it will not go through. That is alot of money for a team like Benfica to put out for a 19 year old, unproven player. I think for 6, it might go though.

What a great buy Adu will be for Benfica..This kid is young and showed great leadership skills in the U-20 World Cup..He rebounded from his horrible experience at DC United. Novak almost ruin Freddy Adu with his unfair labeling him a selfish player..

When his contract is up he's gonna leave. This is a chance for the league to get something out of it.

I think the pull right now is to have him go...RSL/MLS will get good $ (after his U20 performance) and they can they go out and land more seasoned talent. Adu wants to go to Europe...hopefully, it helps him with his game. Ditto for EJ.

5 million is not cheap for a player who hasn't proved anything. He's failed in MLS, he's failed in Man United's training grounds. Freddy Adu has a name for himself. That's about it. A kid who has so much potential but can never get it together. Why is that? This kid should be locked up somewhere and here he is lingering in MLS on the brink of getting sold to some sucker.
Forgive me for being a bit cautious about a player who's never lived up to the hype. When a player gets bounced around in a league that now wants to get rid of him such as MLS I have a serious problem with that. If this kid was as good as advertised MLS would enshrine him.. not trying to show him the door for the past 2 years.
Is he still young? Yes. I'd love to take a chance on him and hope he would mature, grow & succeed in Benfica.... only not for 5 million. Benfica paid 1 million for Fabio and he's far more advanced than Freddy.. 5 million for a player that can't get it together in MLS? No thanks.

Benfica and MLS have come to terms on the purchase of Adu. They apparently agreed on a pice of 2 million but Benfica and Adu still are negotiating on a contract for Adu. This should not take long.
