getting Adu would be a great addition and if he performs as he did in the U-20 championship it should give Benfica a offensive boost.

Adu has tons of potential. He is still very young and needs to build on his strength and being able to handle getting pushed off the ball. I haven't watched him recently, but that was his biggest weakness when I last saw him.

All the Benfica fans in this board want their team to build around youth...
thats basically what Sporting has been doing, and they havent won the championship since 2002 when they had a few veterans on the squad still. Although we won the cup this year and were unlucky to lose the championship.
the best teams require a mix of youth and experience...
So if Benfica makes a young team dont expect them to have success, especially in european competitions they will get slaughtered.

Benfica need to get Adu because this kid is a special player who is being ruin playing in the MLS..He has an unfair label that is put on him for being selfish...Novak really destroy this kid when he was playing on DC United and he was unfairly label...This kid will blossom at Benfica, Sporting, or Porto...Benfica should take the intiative and buy this young talent..

Huh?
Spoting is recent years have signed overrated players. I disagree, we need to have a nucleus of young players/vets. We haven't been able to sign oversea players that can contribute massively.
I believe the benfica managment doesn't have the confidence in letting there kids play. They rather sign other players who have wealth of experience instead of being patient and developing these kids the right way.

i'd be a bit upset considering we already have a far superior player than Adu in Fabio to fill that position...
Adu is a nice little player but he's inconsistant.. yes he's still young and has much room to grow but in all honesty he really has no spot on the team unless we start selling some players like Nuno, Simao etc.. i don't think i'd be content on that for a player like Freddy.
remember that he's already been on a handful of teams including a recent tryout with Man United.. even the price tag is a bit scary... 5 mil is far from a lot but i'd be leary paying top bill for freddy.. if we could get him on the cheap and see how he progresses that would be fine with me... but 5 mil for a player who's never proved his worth on the pitch and has no spot on this team is a bit of an odd gamble i wouldn't attempt.

5 million is too cheap,
Adu doesn't play the Fabio Coentrao position, where did you get that?
One his a winger the other more on the playmaker roll, Benfica got a old men playing that position, Rui Costa.

This would be a bad loss for RSL.

I disagree. This could be a win-win. Freddy can go and play in a more competitive environment and RSL can go and sign more seasoned international players (those two unnamed Argentinians) which will translat einto better quality play and, hopefully, some winning.

If this does go through I just hope he's able to learn how to dive at a Portuguese level.
