The problem with Adu was all the pressure that was put on his shoulders by the MLS when he was such a young kid..Adu doesn't want to be the king, but rather just another player..The pressure is now off his shoulders and he will relax and become the star we all heard about from all the experts..JEC, I'll start him any day over that over hype magician Fabio..Fabio outside from a few tricks show absolutely no leadership in the U20 World Cup and he got a second yellow against Mexico that hurt his team against Gambia..The soccer tricks are getting tiring and I would like to see some player that will concentrate more on winning than being a show pony...

Still nothing official, but I see he's going to sign tomorrow.
Oh well, he's a great prospect, lucky Benfica to have him.
I hope Adu improves during his time there.

Ok very good pick up for benfica, and second great publicity for them aswell. ADU has very high expectations in the states, and now that they have him at benfica , benfica is going to get alot more attention.... I think Adu will play quite often there, especially after a great performance in the u-20 world cup. I would play ADU and Contreao together.... Anyways good move for benfica!

I have NO DOUBT, that if there is any hesitation on Adu's part about signing, after getting the "full tour", he'll be 100% ready to sign and play with Benfica.

I hope he does...could be a steal if he works out.
Hey Jec1, question...is there a Benfica bar like the Sporting one you have in your signature? Where'd you find that? That's pretty sharp, wouldn't mind getting a Benfica one myself.

Going to signed a 5 year deal, worth 400 thousand euros a year

The worst thing Benfica can do is throw him to the wolves. He needs to be eased in gently. Adu has been pressured to be the next Pele since he was 12, they need to take that pressure off his shoulders.

we couldn't be be any more in disagreement on this kid.
he's got a LOT to prove in my eyes. a lot to prove.
in my opinion i think you're overestimating this kid.. he's had plenty of bad games. and he's not even better than fab to me.. but that's just my opinion. the kid is good.. don't get me wrong.. im not taking anything away from what he deserves.. but what he doesn't deserve is the "next pele" title.. that's insulting.. he's no where near that and has never lived up to his hype.
but i will say this.. i'm optimistic.. as negative as my comments have been about him i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.. he has potential.. but then again we've been hearing about his potential for years now but i'll take his age into account. he's still young and i remain optimistic that this kid breaks out sooner or later. but all this other talk making him out to be the messiah is crazy talk to me. he hasn't shown me anything i haven't seen done better. and like ive said before.. he's failed in MLS and he's failed in United's training grounds in front of Ferguson who's a God when it comes to young talent.
But I'll remain optimistic in light of this transaction.. and pray it works out. he has the talent.. question for me is does he have the brain?

I'm sure Pele didn't feel insulted when he touted Adu as "The Next Pele".

I fail to see why that's sad. At the U20 World Cup he made Brazil and Poland look retarded. Anyone who could do that at age 18 has to be half decent. He was just as good as Barcas Gio dos Santos if not better. dos Santos got the bronze ball over Adu because of his name, his daddy and his team.
