well said somos. He was also my favorite player ever in Benfica. Don't remind me of that miss against Barca. That was a heartbreaker.

He's my second all time favorite Benfica player..My favorite Benfica player was Vitor Paniera and he became my favorite after I watch him scored 2 great goals against Juventus in 1993 UEFA Cup Quarter-Finals...What a great player with so much poise..This young team remind me of Benfica in the early 90's when they had Paolo Sousa, Rui Costa, and Joao Pinto...

Adu to Benfica?
Don't know if it's been posted yet (my apologies if it has)...but has anyone heard that Benfica might be trying to sign Adu?
Don't know how much truth there is to the rumor..but if anyone has any insight, it would be much appreciated.
Personally, I think he'd be a good signing. Definitely not capable of replacing Simao, (at this point, I don't think they can sign anyone that would), but he could be a hell of a player once he matures. He's still a kid, and hasn't been able to get going in the MLS. Maybe a move to Portuguese soccer might get the kid jump started...and who knows, he might actually start living up to the hype that's been surrounding him since he was 15.
Thoughts??

Oppss...guess I should have looked a little harder. Thanks for merging.
Great stuff...looks like this might actually be happening. Good signing for Benfica if they can finalize the contract and lock him up for a few years.

According to soccernet Adu will be flying to Lisbon on Sunday to meet with Benfica..It's simple have Eusebio take Adu on the side and tell him how Benfica made him into one of greatest players...It was Eusebio who came to Benfica as a teenager and become a household name...This change will really help Adu and take the burdrn off his shoulders of being the next Pele..He will be surrounded by great players and the expectations won't be that high..Good Luck Adu...

Good luck to him....Don't be mad when he doesn't play well.
Noone is guaranteed playing time. He acts like he is the king of the sport.

players like Adu don't play bad,
he doesn't need to score the goals, we got the players like Cardozo, Nuno Gomes the can put the ball in the net
his job is to play like he did in the U 20 world cup

True but he wasn't the leader I thought he would be.
So frank, You think he will spend most of his time on the bench.

I agree with you Frank...this kid is going to become a household name in Portugal. Hopefully they throw him right in and let him know that he's not there to carry the club, just play within himself.
FORCA BENFICA!!!

wow.
forgive me if i disagree with your analysis on freddy adu frank.
we couldn't be be any more in disagreement on this kid.
he's got a LOT to prove in my eyes. a lot to prove.
in my opinion i think you're overestimating this kid.. he's had plenty of bad games. and he's not even better than fab to me.. but that's just my opinion. the kid is good.. don't get me wrong.. im not taking anything away from what he deserves.. but what he doesn't deserve is the "next pele" title.. that's insulting.. he's no where near that and has never lived up to his hype.
but i will say this.. i'm optimistic.. as negative as my comments have been about him i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.. he has potential.. but then again we've been hearing about his potential for years now but i'll take his age into account. he's still young and i remain optimistic that this kid breaks out sooner or later. but all this other talk making him out to be the messiah is crazy talk to me. he hasn't shown me anything i haven't seen done better. and like ive said before.. he's failed in MLS and he's failed in United's training grounds in front of Ferguson who's a God when it comes to young talent.
But I'll remain optimistic in light of this transaction.. and pray it works out. he has the talent.. question for me is does he have the brain?
