Do you actually watch Adu or you going of what clueless reporters say? Sure it's only the U-20 WYC but did you see him play then? His passing and creating was unreal and was clearly the best player of the field in the matches that he played. He made the Brazilians look stupid and much much better than Pato. I'm not saying he's ready to be playing for a super power club but give him a couple of season getting his feet wet in Europe and he will be a top flight AM.

Transfermarkt.de, which is a very reliable source and very quick on updates, doesn't report it as official. His team is still Real Salt Lake.

Freddy Adu - Transfermarkt.de

There's no official deal yet, I believe. I trust TM.

Come on guys, Adu to Benfica for 2m €. WTF is O Jogo thinking ?!

Of course he will not move for 2m €, this deal may happen, but that little cash is insulting.

It's a done deal it's now being reported on Yahoo sports and in the Washington post...A 5 year deal worth 1.5 million per year..This was a major purschase for Benfica and the main reason is not that Adu has so much potential, but rather Benfica's plan to open a bunch of their soccer schools in the USA..The Newark academy might not be in Newark, but rather in the outer suburbs..They are also planning on opening schools in New York and California and will need to market their club to non Portuguese-Americans..

Kahn, I would say that's about right. Adu is nothin special....from the time I've seen him play, I don't think he possesses the qualities to play at the highest level. He is a talent, but let's see how he does in the Superliga and how he copes with it.

American fans have all said the same, but he was always playing out of position in MLS and his coach in DC really did nothng but hinder his progress. But in the U20 World Cup he played just as well as Gio dos Santos (Barcelona) but against better competition.

I was never impress with Adu watching the MLS games, but watching the U20 World Cup he had it all including scoring, passing, crossing, leadership, and intelligence..I love Simao, but the truth he only led Benfica to one league title and 1 cup..He had a chance to go down in Benfica folklore, but miss an easy goal against Barcelona that would had took Benfica into the semi-finals..He still my favorite Portuguese player, but it's time that Benfica start over..
