He has alot of talent, but he is nowhere near ready to compete in the Premiership. There's no way he could even come close to taking the pitch for Chelsea.

Adu should be moved to RSL. I see it as the perfect fit. He would start and Ellinger would be the perfect coach IMO.

3. FOCUS: Who's being childish?
By Paul Gardner
Naughty, naughty Freddy Adu ... the wonderboy finally opened his mouth and said something that sounded like a real teenager ... and promptly got sat upon by coach Peter Nowak and the impressive, somber might of DC United ... Adu publicly stated his belief that he wasn't getting enough playing time ... this statement of Freddy's, which I happen to agree with, was apparently of such dastardly traitorous significance that, when he didn't apologize for making it, the smiling 16-year-old was hit with a charge of "conduct detrimental to the team" and suspended for one game ... Nowak and the rest of the tight-lipped folks at DC United have apparently not noticed that complaining about lack of playing time is not exactly uncommon in today's game ... in fact, given the way that rich clubs now stack their rosters, it is likely to get more frequent ... and it rarely results in a suspension for the unhappy player doing the complaining ... it is a fact of life for every club today that it will have players who want one, or all, of three things: more money, more playing time, or a move to another club ... clubs are supposed to know how to handle those things without dramatics ... in the Adu incident, he has inevitably been accused, and excused, because of his tender age, the implication being that he doesn't know any better, that he is immature ... yes, there is a good deal of childishness hovering over this matter, but most of it is coming from DC United ... is DC United, is Peter Nowak, so insecure that their only response to a young player's legitimate beef is to attempt to gag him?

Here are some articles from the media

He is slightly overrated IMO. The reason he got so much hype was because he played in the MLS at 14.

no he was overhyped because of his amazing performances for usa's under 17 teams (and below) at age 12-14.
he still has fantastic potential tho.
the latest i heard from him is he wants to move to a big club as soon as possible, but atm metrostars want to buy him from dc.
edit: he will more than likely end up in england because of cultural reasons, but when chelsea came over to the us preseason he was interviewed and he was talking about how he would love to play for chelsea most...might have been nonsense, but what the hey.

He will end up at United or Chelsea but IMO a spanish side would be a better fit, style of play wise.
Adu is a great talent IMO but the situation that that he's in DC United is stunting his growth, they don't use him the right way to take advantage of his abilities, the best thing for him is to be moved this offseason to a move to a club that will allow him to use his great skills, so he can grow as a player. But if you watch this kid play he does the little things so well that the average fan especially here in the US doesn't notice.
