He needs to stay in the mls i feel till hes at least 20 years old then even think about a move aboard. He needs to progress and i just hope he is led in the right direction, this year he should be on the bench for nearly every game and shouldnt be rushed.

well if not 20 then at least 18. hm he'll be 17 next wc? if he can get some playing time there then maybe a move at 18 or 19. i read an article about a kid from south america who was capped for the full national side, moved to europe, and then because he was benched so often he couldn't even make the u-21's a couple of years later. wherever adu is, he needs playing time. if he doesn't get playing time in mls, then he doesnt need to be here.

Adu leaving D.C. United.........................
to play with under-20 national team
Freddy Adu will rejoin the United States under-20 team for an exhibition game against Haiti next week, leaving Major League Soccer's D.C. United.
Adu, 14, was a late addition last year to the under-20 team and played all five games as the United States finished fifth at the FIFA World Youth Championship. He had no goals and one assist, making starts.
In addition to the April 21 game against Haiti, the under-20 team will play Jamaica twice during the weeklong training camp. Adu will be with the team April 18-22. He is not expected to miss any games with D.C. United.
Adu is one of five professionals on the 24-player roster for the U.S. team, which is starting preparations for the 2005 World Youth Championship, to be played in the Netherlands.
Adu became the youngest athlete in over a century to play in a major American professional sports league when he appeared in United's season opener April 3.

If Freddy Adu is sitting the bench then Dc is wasting their money. Paying him a half a mill. No way would he be sitting on my bench.

"He did very well in the last game against Los Angeles. He found his
rhythm and connected very well with this teammates and I'm happy with
him during practice. Things don't happen overnight. He and us need to
be patient. We have to move forward and see what we can do to make
him better and make our team better. I'm pleased with his efforts in
practice and overall I think he's going to get better."
-- D.C. United coach Peter Nowak on Freddy Adu's performance in a 1-1
tie with Los Angeles last Saturday, Adu's second game. Adu and D.C. United
face the MetroStars this Saturday.
"I've learned a lot. I've learned it's still the same game.
Everything is just a little faster. So when I do something I just
have to do it faster. I've been thinking a bit too much and that
takes me a bit out of my game. Now I've learned I trust my teammates,
make the right runs and my teammates will get me the ball in the
right spots. Now I'm just working a little harder. My fitness has
gotten a lot better and I'm working a lot harder on defense as I am
on offense."
-- Adu.
"I just moved into a new apartment and I have no TV or internet. We
have to concentrate on how to make this team better and how to make
my players better. As far as that, I respect all opinions. If someone
approaches me and tells me this is how it's supposed to be, we can
discuss it. But my players and the coaching staff make the decisions
and this is it. You cannot change a decision that happened two weeks
ago. We have to move forward and do what we can do better."
-- Nowak, on being criticized for not having started Adu yet.
"To be honest it's how smart defenders are in this league. That's
something that did surprise me a little bit. They're very smart and
always on the right foot. It's very hard to get a shot on goal and to
have a lot of space to take a ball at somebody. You have to work
extra hard to do that."
-- Adu on what has surprised him about MLS.

Yeh but you actually ruin his career in the future. Look at owen when he was 17/18 he was playing nearly every week, now he is burnt out and he keeps picking up injuries. Sir Alex Ferguson kept ryan giggs on the bench a lot when he was 17-20 and this benefited him in the future. Thats what he is doing to Cristano Ronaldo and giving him a rest period to recover.
The next few years for adu should be given a rest and not play every week.

I have to agree. There is no need to rush Adu -- even with his big (by MLS standards) salary.

ME too, teach him, let him learn from the vets etc, no rush, he's not going anywhere. In watching MLS wrap this week, they had a field shot when he ran onto the field to meet the team huddle, man he looked small...............
