I just do not have any basis of fact to say that he is qualified "YET" to do this job on his own. Time will tell. Nothing in the world would make me happier than see him do well. We will see. Lets see how many young players we see on the field next year. This year was a perfect opportunity to let the young players player and gain experience. Stay tunned I guess.

Benfica is not a huge mess, a huge mess are teams like Boavista and others fighting for existence. Now I'm not aiming this at you but its fans that always talk like its the end of the world that make the situation worst then better. Benfica the organization itself is in good shape, the brand name is still valuable, the current team is ok, just needs a few changes to be more consistent. The missing piece is a good sports director.

You're right, there is no basis to say Rui is qualified for the job just like there is no basis to say its a HUGE mistake to give him the job. Lets just stay tuned as you said

And remember, the most important part of Rui's job currently is getting a good coach. After he gets a coach he will be working hand in hand with the coach, its not like Rui will be coaching the team. And I don't think there's anyone better suited to pick a coach then someone who actually played for some of the best coaches in the world and who better to lure them to Benfica then someone like Rui Costa??? After that its mostly about getting the best players you can that you can afford and I personally think Rui likes young players and will try to bring players from within as was his own personal experience.

Now I agree with you on that 100% and I still have my fingers crossed. I have said more then once that Queiroz is the perfect fit for Benfica.

Outside of Queiroz the only other coach out there that I like would be Laudrap although he's not Portuguese. The only other good Portuguese candidate would be Coelho in my opinion.

Laudrup would be awesome! I doubt he will come though, his Spanish is good enough that communication I don't think would be a problem though.

Coelho would be a close second to Queiroz for me too. Lets hope.

Supposedly he has been contacted by teams from Portugal, England & Russia.

I'd just like to say that Rui Costa is doing a fantastic job up to date with his new role. He is picking up players that other clubs want and attracting them to Benfica, this isn't how it used to be for the club.

Yebda was wanted in Italy and England, Urreta by Holland and England, Aimar by England, and so on. He has been persuading them to join Benfica and after each signing most of them state that they were unsure until Rui spoke to them. Great Job by Rui Costa.
