He is still currently technically on loan, and his move doesn't get registered as permanent untill the end of the season, so he cannot play against you.

Sounds a bit like clever journalism, heres the origional interview/article where the quotes came from:
Quote:
Manuel Fernandes would be happy to stay at Everton if his loan deal is made permanent.
He joined the Toffees from Benfica in January on a temporary basis, and is waiting to see what his future holds.
And Fernandes, still only 21, is desperate to impress when Everton come up against big guns Chelsea and Manchester United in the next few weeks.
"I am just waiting game by game to see what will happen," he told evertonTV.
"At the end of the season, if I stay here I will be happy and if I go home I will be happy too, because I had a good experience here."
Having already impressed Everton fans with his fancy footwork and crisp passing, Fernandes is looking forward to taking centre stage again against the Barclays Premiership's top two sides.
"It is nice that the fans have taken to me and it shows that they like your work and it is nice when you do something and they appreciate you," he added.
"I think to be known as a player you need to not only play against good teams, but play against the best players in the world and against the big teams and see if you are capable of being at the same level as them.
"So for me, if I play against Man United or Chelsea, big teams, it is a huge accomplishment because I want to play against the best and to be one of the best as well."

Liverpool wants Simao
Simao is not forgot
www.ojogo.p
Liverpool scout the player during the season
the new american owners to inject 60 million euros for the upcoming season
Simao been a favorite of coach Benitez going back to 2005
Rick Parry
"Simão não está esquecido"
FILIPE PEDRAS
O diário inglês "News of the World" insistiu ontem nesta possibilidade, e é certo que os "reds" seguem com especial atenção o percurso do avançado benfiquista.

I've discussed this with Somos and we agreed that Simao must talk to the directors and decide whether he wants to leave or not.
