Autopsy inconclusive in death of Hungarian striker

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Autopsy results were inconclusive in the death of a player for Hungary's national team, the Attorney General's office said Monday.

Miklos Feher, 24, collapsed on the field during a Portuguese league match Sunday. He was shown a yellow card in injury time, then leaned forward with his hands on his thighs and fell back.

The Attorney General's office said an inquiry will be opened because the autopsy failed to reveal the cause of death. More tests will be done, and it might take more than a month for results.

On Monday, the Portuguese Soccer Federation declared a day of mourning. Benfica, which beat Guimaraes 1-0, is expected to postpone next weekend's game against Academica.

Hungarian Football Association president Imre Bozoky described Feher's death as an ``extraordinary tragedy.''

Feher's most celebrated game for Hungary was a qualifier against Lithuania for the 2000 European Championship, when he scored three goals in a 6-1 victory.

Last year, Cameroon star Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed at the Confederations Cup and later died. He was found to have had a heart attack caused by an enlarged left ventricle.

4 deaths in the past few months. I think that FIFA should have got the message that todays players are under too much stress and play too many games.

Marítimo had player called Márcio António who died in training a few years ago (1999). They retired the number 19 shirt for him. I am sure Paul will know more.

They are going to look at every thing (even foul-play) which i don't think it is, its very very sad.
Every one has date with our maker does not matter if you are rich, poor, un-fit or fit the day we are born the clock starts ticking until we meet with our maker.

R.I.P Miklos Feher and peace to your family.

Futebol – Comitiva portista presta homenagem a Fehér

ASF
