Portuguese average attendances are a joke. Even in the MLS there are higher average attendances than the Primeira.

That is because PF has a pathetic stadium, it was like a sell out in a stadium that should only be in 2nd division, the team soon will follow it as they will be relegated unless a miracle happens. :hey:

I think that the Big 3 are the only teams in Portugal to have attendances over 10,000 per match

Benfica suffer another setback, Porto stay top

LISBON, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Benfica suffered another setback in their slim hopes for the Portuguese league title on Sunday, dropping more points in a 3-3 draw away to Uniao Leiria.

Porto, who beat relegation-threatened Pacos Ferreira away 2-0 on Saturday, lead the league with 45 points at the season's halfway point. Sporting are second on 40 and Benfica a distant third with 34.

In an attacking match, Uniao Leiria opened the score on a counter-attack in the 19th minute when winger Luis Filipe went through on his own before driving the ball home past Benfica keeper Jose Moreira.

Benfica levelled in the 29th minute with a shot from inside box by Croatian striker Tomislav Sokota, but Leiria went ahead again three minutes before halftime when Cameroon striker Roudolph Douala scored from a rebound.

Striker Nuno Gomes put Benfica 3-2 ahead with goals in the 57th and 78th minutes but seven minutes from time Douala grabbed the equaliser.

South African striker Benni McCarthy scored twice in Porto's win over Pacos Ferreira, maintaining their unbeaten run this season.

McCarthy put the champions ahead in the 16th minute when he was left unmarked and touched home a cross from close range. The second came six minutes later with a shot from inside the box.

Second-placed Sporting came from behind to beat struggling Vitoria Guimaraes 2-1 on Friday.

Guimaraes took the lead after 22 minutes, striker Romeu Almeida heading home a cross from defender Ruben Junior.

But Sporting equalised in the 31st minute when striker Joao Pinto scored from inside the box.

Guimaraes were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute after Brazilian striker Rafael Dias was sent off for two bookable offences. Sporting got their seventh successive league win with a 42nd-minute goal by Pedro Barbosa from a 20-metre free kick.
