KOEMAN DEMANDS RESPECT AFTER LIVERPOOL EXIT

Benfica manager Ronald Koeman believes their win over Champions League title holders Liverpool will finally earn them respect in Europe.

Simao Sabrosa and substitute Fabrizio Miccoli scored at Anfield to earn the Portuguese champions a 2-0 win on the night and a 3-0 aggregate victory.

"This was a very important result for Benfica because we did something a lot of people did not expect us to do," Koeman told reporters after the match at Anfield.

Asked if anyone had expected Benfica to beat the European champions, Koeman said: "People in Portugal maybe did, but the people in the rest of Europe were surprised we beat Liverpool in the first leg and more surprised we have won here today."

Benfica have enjoyed success against English teams in this season's competition with their 2-1 win over Manchester United in the group stage ensuring the 1999 winners made
