Gretna vs killie
Gretna 1-2 Kilmarnock
Ryan Jarvis scored Killie's winner against Gretna
Kilmarnock returned to winning ways with a victory over Gretna at Fir Park.
Willie Gibson's strike gave Killie the opener after just four minutes, before Ryan Jarvis' right-foot finish made it two with 36 minutes gone.
Gretna spurned a great chance to get themselves back into the game before half-time when Colin McMenamin missed a spot-kick.
Gavin Skelton pulled one back for the home side with a terrific shot outside the box, but it was not enough.
The defeat means the newly-promoted south of Scotland side have lost all three of their opening home games and are yet to win in the Scottish Premier League.
Abdul Osman flashed a shot wide in the first minute for Gretna, but three minutes later were trailing after a wonderful finish from Willie Gibson.
Colin Nish released Rhian Dodds down the right and he drilled a cross to the far side of the box where Gibson curled a high shot past Greg Fleming from 15 yards.
Killie, who had already lost the services of centre-half Simon Ford through illness before the game, were forced into another change at the back when Ryan O'Leary was forced off after a clash of heads.
The Irishman Tim Clancy came on at left-back with Frazer Wright moving into the centre.
Jarvis, on-loan from Norwich, doubled the visitors' advantage after good play from Grant Murray and Colin Nish.
Murray swung in a cross and Nish did well to direct a header into the path of Jarvis, who guided it into the bottom-corner from 12 yards.
But Gretna were handed a lifeline just before the interval when Murray chopped down Fabian Yantorno inside the box.
Colin McMenamin stepped up but his powerfully struck penalty crashed off the crossbar onto the goal-line before being cleared.
The home side were unlucky not to pull one back after 58 minutes.
Yantorno flighted in a delicious free-kick and substitute Erik Paartalu beat Alan Combe to the ball but saw his header hit the bar and bounce over.
Nish almost put Killie three up when he raced on to a terrific David Fernandez pass and lobbed Fleming but his effort hit the bar.
Gretna's energy and commitment could not be faulted and Mickaël Buscher drew a good save from Alan Combe.
The Frenchman struck a right-footed shot low to the Killie keeper's left-hand side but he was able to parry it away from danger.
The home support were finally given something to cheer when Skelton crashed in a wonderful volley from 20 yards with just seconds of the match remaining.

Kilmarnock 0 - 0 St Mirren
Scottish Premier League
Saturday 22nd September 2007
Rugby Park, Kilmarnock
Quote:
Kilmarnock and St Mirren ground out a draw in a game of few chances at Rugby Park in the Scottish Premier League.
Colin Nish squandered a couple of openings for the home side, but it was St Mirren who were the better side in the opening 45 minutes.
Buddies substitute Stephen McGinn fired a shot just wide and headed another just past the post after the break.
But Kilmarnock held out to prevent St Mirren claiming their first win over the Ayrshire side since 1992-93.
Ryan O'Leary had failed to make the Kilmarnock starting line-up after breaking his nose in last week's win over Gretna.
Simon Ford returned from injury to take O'Leary's place in central defence, while Tim Clancy made his first start in place of the injured Grant Murray.
Alan Reid started for St Mirren in place of suspended left-back Franco Miranda.
Despite the loss of the Argentine, the Buddies opened on the front foot and forced a couple of early corners.
And it took some cool play from Simon Ford to rob Hugh Murray when the visitors threatened in the penalty box.
Ryan Jarvis and Colin Nish combined well for Killie after 19 minutes, but the latter lost control of the ball 12 yards from goal.
The Buddies replied and Reid's shot was blocked by Clancy after good work on the right by Murray.
Goalkeeper Alan Combe came to Kilmarnock's rescue when he blocked Murray's shot on his left-hand post after the Saints man stole possession from Allan Johnston.
Nish had a header on target from Willie Gibson's cross as the first half drew to a close, but it was a simple save for Smith.
St Mirren brought midfielder Stephen McGinn on for defender Reid at the start of the second half.
And it was the visitors who showed the early threat again with the newly-introduced McGinn firing wide from 15 yards.
Saints came close again when McGinn stole behind the home defence to head Chris Birchall's cross just over.
Kilmarnock came close to breaking the deadlock on the hour mark when Haining almost turned a Wright cross into his own goal.
Haining again came close to netting for Killie, this time heading a David Fernandez corner a couple of feet over his crossbar.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kilmarnock: Combe, Fowler, Lilley, Wright, Ford, Nish, Johnston, Dodds, Gibson, Clancy, Jarvis.
Subs: Rascle, Locke, Fernandez, Koudou, Hamill, Bryson, Flannigan.
St Mirren: Smith, van Zanten, Reid, Mason, Haining, Potter, Murray, Mehmet, O'Donnell, McCay, Birchall.
Subs: Howard, Kean, Brittain, Brady, Corcoran, Docherty, McGinn.

Hamilton 2-0 Kilmarnock
CIS Insurance Cup
Wednesday 26th September 07
Hamilton
Quote:
Hamilton powered past their SPL opponents to progress to the quarter-finals of the CIS Cup for the first time since 1981.
Teenager James McCarthy gave the First Divsion side the lead after 16 minutes as Kilmarnock struggled to keep Accies' attacks at bay.
As Killie battled to get back into the game James McArthur doubled Hamilton's lead eight minutes before the break.
The First Division leaders held firm in the second half to secure victory.
Interview: Hamilton manager Billy Reid
Kilmarnock's defence was under the cosh from early in the game and lost the opening goal when David Winters' cross broke to McCarthy who slid the ball home.
The SPL side's Colin Nish then fed Grant Murray, but his header was superbly saved by goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell.
McArthur doubled Accies' advantage after 37 minutes.
Lilley tried to clear a Mark Gilhaney cross only for the ball to unintentionally come off his hand.
Claims for a penalty were ignored by referee Kenny Clark but the ball broke kindly to McArthur who sent a right-footed shot low into the back of the net.
Kilmarnock tried in vain to reduce the deficit and Jim Jefferies' side's misery was compounded when David Fernandez received his marching orders after two quick yellow cards.

Hibernian 4-1 Kilmarnock
Quote:
Hibs swept aside injury-hit Kilmarnock, with striker Clayton Donaldson hitting a hat-trick, despite missing a penalty.
Donaldson smashed an acrobatic shot home early on and followed it with a conversion from the penalty spot.
Alan Combe saved a second spot-kick and made a number of great stops before Mickael Antoine-Curier tapped in.
Colin Nish replied for Killie but Donaldson made no mistake from yet another penalty, given away by Ryan O'Leary who was sent off.
Easter Road manager John Collins handed defender Darren McCormack a start on his birthday and the 19-year-old enjoyed a comfortable SPL debut.
Hibs have made a habit of scoring early this season and the home side again started brightly and went in front after 12 minutes.
The visitors failed to clear a Filipe Morais corner and when Brian Kerr headed the ball back into the danger zone Donaldson spun quickly and blazed a shot high into the net.
Kilmarnock replied with a swift break and Aime Koudou's shot was blocked by the long legs of goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay.
Hibs striker Steven Fletcher picked up a perfect long delivery from David Murphy and cleverly juggled the ball on his head to get past Frazer Wright but Combe blocked his shot from a tight angle.
Fletcher failed to direct another wonderful cross from Murphy on target and Combe made an incredible full-length diving save to claw away a net-bound header from Rob Jones.
Hibs were full of verve and invention as they pressed forward but their second goal was harsh on Killie.
Wright appeared to time his tackle on Donaldson perfectly but referee Stuart Dougal enraged the supporters from Ayrshire when he pointed to the spot.
Donaldson picked himself up and tucked the penalty kick away for his fourth goal in his last three starts.
Three minutes before the interval, Combe failed to gather a cross and had defender Simon Ford to thank for clearing away a shot from Morais.
The lively Portuguese winger then warmed the hands of Combe with a strike after a lightening counter-attack from the home team.
Antoine-Curier celebrates his second half goal for Hibs
Hibs were awarded a second penalty inside the first minute of the second half when David Lilley climbed all over Donaldson.
However, the former York City striker saw his casual effort comfortably saved by Combe.
The visiting keeper followed that with another very impressive stop to keep out a Fletcher effort as the Hibs striker slid in to meet Murphy's low cross.
Kilmarnock made a triple substitution on 54 minutes, with Colin Nish, Willie Gibson and Craig Bryson thrown on by manager Jim Jefferies.
But the visitors could not halt the Hibs attacks and the busy Combe once again denied Fletcher, with the Scotland under-21 international firing in a powerful swerving shot.
Fletcher was replaced by Antoine-Curier and the big Frenchman tapped in Hibs' third goal when he diverted Donaldson's shot from close range.
Killie subs Gibson and Nish combined to reduce the deficit, with the latter drilling in a shot from six yards.
But a third penalty was given to the home team when O'Leary hacked down the speedy Donaldson and the striker made it count this time.
O'Leary was sent packing for the ugly challenge and Ford and Gary Locke could have followed for bad fouls as Killie lost all discipline.
Antoine-Curier flashed a free-kick narrowly wide and mis-kicked horribly in front of goal as Hibs pressed for more goals on a good afternoon for their fans.

Hibernian: Ma-Kalambay, McCormack, Jones, Murphy, Morais (O'Brien 66), Beuzelin (Gathuessi 46), Kerr, McCann, Chisholm, Donaldson, Fletcher (Antoine-Curier 61). Subs Not Used: McNeil, Shiels, Joneleit, Zemmama

Kilmarnock 2-2 Inverness 06/10/07
Quote:
Injury-hit Kilmarnock had to make do with a point as Inverness Caledonian Thistle twice came from behind to level in an exciting Rugby Park encounter.
Aime Koudou opened the scoring after goalkeeper Michael Fraser dropped a Craig Bryson effort against the post.
But Killie defender Ross Ford headed into his own net.
Colin Nish fired the home side back into the lead from 18 yards after the break, but Don Cowie levelled again from a 25-yard free-kick.
Kilmarnock's injury crisis was so bad that they could only muster five substitutes and three of them were carrying injuries.
It meant a first start for 19-year-old Iain Flannigan, who lined up in midfield with Scotland Under-21 cap Jamie Hamill.
The Caley Thistle line-up had a familiar look about it, but player-manager Craig Brewster was not even on the bench.
But Killie's depleted side took only 35 seconds to open the scoring.
Willie Gibson's cross was met by Craig Bryson, goalkeeper Michael Fraser could only push the ball against the post and Koudou tapped in from a few yards out.
Caley had to wait until the 10th minute for their first real effort on goal but Barry Wilson's shot from 20 yards was off target.
A Flannigan free-kick then caused problems in the visitors' defence as Frazer Wright's shot was blocked.
But Caley Thistle drew level in 21 minutes when a punt into the Killie box was headed into his own net by Ford with Alan Combe stranded.
David Lilley missed a great opportunity to put Kilmarnock back in front when he shot over from six yards after a Flannigan corner fell at his feet.
Don Cowie had an effort beat away by Killie goalkeeper Alan Combe and, at the other end, Fraser pulled off a good stop from Craig Bryson.
Lilley came to his side's rescue a couple of minutes before the break when he headed clear a Cowie cross with several Inverness players waiting to pounce.
The impressive Bryson was first to threaten after the break, but his 30-yard drive was held by Fraser.
Combe punched clear after Marius Niculae met a cross from Ross Tokely, who then sent a header into the goalkeeper's arms from 12 yards.
But it was Killie who were back in the lead after 55 minutes, Nish firing home from 18 yards.
Willie Gibson drilled wide from a similar distance as Killie attempted to add to their lead.
Instead, It took Inverness only four minutes to draw level again from Cowie's free-kick from 25 yards after Lilley had fouled Roy McBain.
Combe denied Graham Bayne after the striker met a Russell Duncan cross from 12 yards.
Tokely and Richard Hastings both had attempts to put Inverness in the lead for the first time.
And Killie substitute Ryan Jarvis squandered a late chance by hesitating in front of the Caley Thistle goal.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kilmarnock: Combe, Fowler, Wright, Lilley, Ford, Flannigan (Locke 87), Gibson, Bryson, Hamill, Koudou (Jarvis 70), Nish.

Falkirk 1-1 Kilmarnock
Saturday 20th October 07
Scottish Premier League
Quote:
Falkirk and Kilmarnock had to settle for a share of the spoils after an entertaining match at Falkirk Stadium.
The hosts got off to a dream start after two minutes when Carl Finnigan drove home from close range from Scott Arfield's cross.
Kilmarnock equalised in the 10th minute when Frazer Wright found the net with a powerful header.
The visitors looked the more likely to score after the break but could not find a winning goal.
Falkirk were looking for their first victory over Kilmarnock in 10 meetings.
The Bairns had to make do without Jack Ross and manager John Hughes made sweeping changes following two straight 4-2 defeats.
Russell Latapy, Tam Scobbie, Pedro Moutinho and Arnau Riera dropped out, and were replaced by Gerard Aafjes, Steven Thomson, Graham Barrett and Carl Finnigan.
Kilmarnock included new signing Mehdi Taouil among their substitutes and handed starting roles to Gary Wales and Danny Invincibile after injuries.
John Hughes' side scored within two minutes when Finnigan powered home Arfield's cross.
Kilmarnock equalised in the 10th minute when Wright rose powerfully to head home Willie Gibson's cross.
The visitors almost took the lead when Danny Invincibile hit the post with a powerful shot.
The Australian cut in from the right and played a one-two with Nish on the edge of the area before curling a shot which beat Falkirk goalkeeper Tim Krul's despairing dive, but cannoned back off the post.
Finnigan's weak header from Dean Holden's cross and Graham Barrett's blocked effort were the hosts' best efforts to double their tally before the break.
Kilmarnock were the more dangerous side after the break but could not find a winning goal as both sides settled for a point.
The visitors introduced new signing Mehdi Taouil for the last five minutes in place of Colin Nish but the Moroccan was given little chance to impress.
Gary Locke's shot late-on was the closes Kilmarnock came to claiming three points.

Kilmarnock 3-1 Heart Of Midlothian FT
Quote:
Kilmarnock deservedly took the honours at Rugby Park with a comfortable win over a dismal and lacklustre Hearts.
A quiet first half sparked into life when the Jambos' Christian Nade was sent off for a foul on Frazer Wright.
Gary Wales blasted his his first goal of the season for Killie in 55 minutes, and Colin Nish netted a penalty in 71 following Robbie Neilson's handball.
Willie Gibson made it three after 77 after Anthony Basso's error with Ibrahim Tall heading Hearts' late goal.
Killie were looking to halt their slide after drawing three of their last four league matches.
They were boosted with club captain Garry Hay's return, allowing boss Jim Jefferies to name a more familiar line-up.
The visitors, meanwhile, chose to rest goalkeeper-coach Steve Banks, but a more significant absence was that of injured Laryea Kingston, the midfield playmaker.
French goalkeeper Basso and Finnish striker Juho Makela came into the cosmopolitan line-up, whose recent improvement was interrupted by last weekend's slump at home to Dundee United.
It was a lively start by the visitors, with striker Nade causing some early concern for Kilmarnock.
The hosts struggled to create some momentum, and were nearly punished in the 11th minute.
With both sides struggling to keep their feet in slippery conditions, the busy Nade tried his luck with an overhead kick from 12 yards, but Killie keeper Alan Combe was equal to the task.
Daniele Invincible eventually responded for Kilmarnock, but his header from distance was tipped around the post by Basso, as the game cried out for a major spark to ignite the crowd.
Michael Stewart, who was beginning to impose himself for Hearts, drove a free-kick just beyond the half-hour from 25 yards only for Combe to deny him.
The spark well and truly arrived a minute before the break when Nade was dismissed with a straight red card for a reckless late lunge on Wright.
With a player short the Edinburgh side were required to reshuffle, and Makela was surprisingly replaced by Ricardas Beniusis just a few minutes into the second period.
Killie took full advantage of their extra man, however, to blast in front with a goal worthy of lighting up any game.
Man-of-the-match Wales received a knock down from Nish on the edge of the penalty area and the forward struck a sweet half-volley beyond Basso into the left hand corner of the net.
With the visitors falling off the pace, they were punished with a penalty awarded when Robbie Neilson appeared to handle.
