And we ( I if you will....) Support Canada.but when you have top tier players ditching the nation such as Langdon Donavon,Owen Hargreaves and most recently Jonathan De Guzman...it really makes you wonder when Canada will qualify for the next world cup.
|
Of course it's tough when your nation is doing badly, we know about this. Under Vogts we had slumped way, way down the rankings but you should always stick by your country and NT.

No doubt.Support is at a high during the Gold cup ( Canada won in 2000 ).Sadly Canada isnt part of the Euro Qualifiers for obvious reasons...which leaves us with.....I think you get the point

a) 2nd and 3rd generation Canadians (ie, parents and/or grandparents came over 3-6 decades ago), which make up alot of Canadians, have more Scottish, Italian, Arab, etc blood in them than they do Canadian, which unless your native, your background is from somewhere outside North America.
b) I know alot of Scots, Ive been to the Scottish pubs here, seen the Highland games, etc and they are proud to be Canadian, but when it comes to women, food, language, and especially football, its Scotland > Canada everyday of the week, so your either lying about your relatives, or they represent a minority viewpoint.
c) "Soccer" doesn't exist in Canada. There is no Canadian football culture. Not because they're terrible, but because the people who support football in this country have ties to other nations 9 times out 10. Thats on top of the fact that "soccer" is ridiculed in this country, gets zero media attention, and little to no respect outside ethnic groups. There is a reason y Hargreaves chose England over Canada, and it wasn't only a career choice.

Exactly. We'd have qualified for the World cup last time round if Hargreaves Donavan De Guzman and a boat load of others decided to stay with us.We'd have an amazing team.

Thanks for the history lesson but yes i do know this fact.
Do you have any italian roots is what im saying??
If not then you have adopted a whole culture

Maybe they would choose sports to be Scotland over Canada but choose a full culture just beacuse you have distant roots ??
lol So now your trying to make excuses for supporting Italy over Canada. No media coverage, no football culture etc etc......so that gives you the right to adopt another countrys being just because your country doesn't have enough football......
BTW start a new thread if you wish to continue this debate, I dont want to corrupt this thread any more than I have already done

2nd and 3rd generation isn't that distant. It means their parents or grandparents are the ones that came over. They certainly wouldn't be eating poutine over haggis.

Let's examine the facts, shall we? 1. Italy's first goal came from a throw in taken from the wrong spot. Fair enough, everyone does it, Scotland were asleep. 2. Italy's disallowed goal. Not offside, probably a hand ball. 3. Scotland's penalty claim. Seen them given in other circumstances, but it was never going to be given against Italy in such a massive game against a smaller nation. 4. Scotland's goal. Marginally offside. 5. Last 15/20 minutes. Absolutely disgraceful refereeing. Culminated in what has to be the most crooked, deceitful decision I have ever witnessed. But should we be surprised?...no! Of course, the referee did not actually score Italy's second goal. Scotland still had the opportunity to defend the free kick, but by that stage I think they had sensed the game was well and truly up. When all is said and done, it seems to me that the ref and his main stand assistant were determined to do all in their power to make sure that the 'big team' were not going to be knocked out. I suspect they didn't bank on a goal being scored from the free kick at the death, but, hey, so what - it's only Scotland... Watch the game again. I don't normally go for conspiracy theories, but towards the end every decision - including the blatantly wrong ones - went for the Italians. Scandalous. Any decision that went Scotland's way in the whole game came as a result of instinctive, split second judgements. When it came down to it, and it looked like there was a chance of Italy being knocked out, the referee consciously fell back on instructions from his masters...whoever they may be. By the way, I'm not Scottish, just a lover of the game and a believer in fair play.

[quote=Mr Brightside] were robbed by an absolutely scandalous decision by the Assistant Referee.
QUOTE]
Dissalowing an onside goal and giving Scotland a goal that was offside is robbing a team?
When they gave that bad decision at the end the game shouldn't have even been 1-1 it should ahve been 2-0 to Italy.
