Goalkeeper Allan McGregor has withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly with South Africa.

The Rangers player picked up a minor ankle injury sustained in Saturday's 7-2 win against Falkirk.

With Craig Gordon, Neil Alexander and David Marshall already in the squad, the 25-year-old will not be replaced.

Dundee United midfielder Barry Robson is included in the squad for the first time, as is West Brom's English-born James Morrison.

Rangers pair David Weir and Barry Ferguson have been rested as national manager Alex McLeish gives others the chance to impress.

Celtic midfielder Paul Hartley is another established international to be given a night off.

Hearts defender Christophe Berra was added to the original squad a day after it was announced and he too could make his international debut.

Shame, because I think McGregor would have played in this game, but, he needs to remain fit for Rangers. This will be a decent chance for other players to stake a claim for the up-and-coming double header against Lithuania at home then France in Paris.

Not too fussed about this tbh. It's just a friendly. We know our first team can play together.

I think we should use these now for testing new players and new formations.
