Default Killie vsRangers

Kilmarnock 1-2 Rangers

Rangers continued their winning start to the season thanks to a hard-fought victory at Rugby Park.

DaMarcus Beasley shot the visitors ahead early in the second half only for Danny Invincibile to reply with a neat finish at the end of a flowing move.

Rangers were the stronger side for long spells, while Killie defended well and were a threat on the break.

Jean Claude Darcheville grabbed the winner, turning to drill home a loose ball from close range.

Rangers have now won four from four in the league, while the home team lost for the first time and stay on seven points.

The visitors enjoyed the best of the early possession and Steven Whittaker warmed the hands of Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe with a blistering long-range drive.

But, on 13 minutes, Rangers keeper Allan McGregor had to beat away a fierce shot from Naismith when the Killie star skipped past David Weir and let loose from 25 yards.

Combe gave the home fans a scare when he spilled a tame strike from Beasley but the keeper recovered quickly enough to thwart the onrushing Kris Boyd.

The Killie number one looked more impressive on the half hour when he made a great block to keep out a well-struck Boyd effort from near the penalty spot.

Rangers were growing in menace and Combe again had to look smart to smother a raking dig from Whittaker.

However, Kilmarnock gave Walter Smith's side a reminder that they were still in the game when Invincibile fired in a dipping shot from 30 yards that McGregor dealt with acrobatically.

Rangers were on top for most of the game at Rugby Park

Darcheville replaced Daniel Cousin at the break and the French striker went close with an angled shot that went through the legs of the sprawling Combe but hit the side-netting.

The substitute then had a hand in the Rangers breakthrough after 52 minutes.

He held up a Barry Ferguson pass on the edge of the penalty area to lay the ball into the path of Beasley and Whittaker and when it broke kindly to the American, he scooped a shot beyond Combe from eight yards.

Ferguson had a close-range effort blocked, Combe saved another Whittaker strike and clawed away a dangerous cross, with Boyd looming, before the hosts levelled with a slick breakaway.

Naismith scampered down the left and the fed the ball to Colin Nish, who hooked it into the penalty box where Invincibile demonstrated good chest control before deftly placing a shot past the exposed McGregor.

Killie enjoyed a good spell after the goal but fell behind again on 76 minutes.

Last-ditch tackles prevented Boyd then Beasley getting shots away but the ball fell to Darcheville and the forward drilled in a neat shot on the turn.

Default Jarvis And Di Giacamo

Killie sign Norwich loan striker

Jarvis spent three months of last season on loan at Leyton Orient
Kilmarnock have completed the signing of 21-year-old striker Ryan Jarvis on loan from English Championship outfit Norwich City.
But Killie manager Jim Jefferies insists that it is not in preparation for the sale of Steven Naismith.

"Paul di Giacomo needs games and we are allowing him to go out on loan, so it is one in, one out," he told BBC Sport.

"We have known about Ryan for some time and had him watched. Norwich don't want to lose him but feel he needs games."

Rangers failed in their attempt to sign Scotland Under-21 star Naismith earlier in the summer and reports claim that the Ibrox club will make another bid before the end of the transfer window.

"We are hoping to keep Steven Naismith and nothing has changed," said Jefferies.

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies

"Ryan would be here whether or not Steven Naismith is staying as he is a good young prospect who has represented England at Under-19 and Under-20 level."

Jefferies was tipped off about Jarvis' availability by former Dundee and Hibernian manager Jim Duffy, now assistant at Carrow Road.

"Jim Duffy speaks very highly of the lad. He wants the chance to play regular football," said the Killie manager.

"I remember him from the Milk Cup a few years back, when I watched him score the winner for Norwich against Hearts. These things stick in your mind.

"He's done very well whenever I've seen him recently.

"It's good for us to bring a new face into the club and it's good for the boy to have a chance to play first-team football.

"You only have to look at the examples of Anthony Stokes and Kasper Schmeichel at Falkirk to see how a move like this can benefit clubs and players."

Jarvis has made 28 league appearances for Norwich, although 23 of those have been as a substitute.

He had a loan spell at Colchester in 2005 and another at Leyton Orient last season.

And he could make his Kilmarnock debut in Saturday's clash with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League at Rugby Park.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Di Giacomo has signed for First Division outfit Partick Thistle on loan until January.

He has not made any appearances for Kilmarnock this season

Ryan Jarvis will do well for you lot

he has a eye for goal ...he was a goal machine in our youth but when it came to scoring for the 1st team he couldn't do it ...he was at Leyton Orient last season and he scored something like 6 goals in 3 games

Default Pterhead vs Killmarncok

Peterhead 0-3 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock earned a comfortable win over Peterhead in the second round of the CIS Insurance cup at Balmoor.
Colin Nish's header opened the scoring oafter 30 minutes and Frazer Wright doubled the lead after the interval.

Peterhead could have reduced the deficit, but Martin Bavidge's penalty was easily saved by Alan Combe.

A Steven Naismith header in from Willie Gibson's delivery ended the second division side's hopes of causing an SPL upset.

Kilmarnock enjoyed the best of the possession in the early stages, but couldn't break down the resilient Peterhead defence.

A surging run from Gibson ended with a brilliantly-measured cross which landed right on the head of Nish 10 yards from goal.

The striker sent his effort down into the turf and the ball carried past Michal Kula in the home goal.

Peterhead had watched a low Bobby Mann free-kick from 30 yards out comfortably saved by Combe and the shots continued to come from distance, with Graeme Sharp blasting wide in the 35th minute.

Kilmarnock continued to pose a serious threat on the break thanks to their pace and could have doubled their advantage shortly afterwards.

Naismith picked up an Allan Johnston through-ball in his stride, but when clean on goal, the 20-year-old could only clip his effort wide of goal.

Kilmarnock remained in control as half-time approached and Gibson volleyed over from the edge of the penalty area, while new signing Ryan Jarvis flicked just wide after Nish had done well to connect with a Naismith cross.

Killie went two ahead just three minutes after the break when Wright rose to meet a corner from Dodds and directed a powerful header inside Kula's far post.

To their credit, Peterhead responded well to that setback and within four minutes had won a penalty when Bavidge was brought down by Ryan O'Leary.

But Combe corerectly guessed Bavidge's effort would go to his left and the Kilmarnock keeper parried.

In the 55th minute, the game was over as a contest as Gibson's deep cross found the unmarked Naismith who netted easily with a close-range header.

Peterhead: Kula, Buchan, Mann, MacDonald, Mackay, Anderson, Sharp, Bavidge, Kelly, Istead (Bagshaw 52), Kozmanski (Munro 84). Subs Not Used: Will, McKay, Good.

Rangers have finally signed striker Steven Naismith from Kilmarnock for a fee of £1.9m.
The Ibrox club failed with repeated offers for the 20-year-old over the summer but got their man in the final few minutes of the transfer window.

Naismith submitted then withdrew a transfer request at Rugby Park and has performed well for Killie this term.

Rangers claimed they had dropped their interest in the SPFA Young Player of the Year but nipped in with a late bid.

Sandy Bryson, head of the Scottish FA's registration department, confirmed that paperwork confirming the deal was complete arrived by fax at Hampden at 23.59 BST, beating the midnight deadline.

Naismith, who bagged 19 goals last season, has been on target once already during this campaign - in the 3-0 CIS Cup win at Peterhead.

And he turned in a good performance against Rangers in the 2-1 loss to the league leaders at Rugby Park last weekend.

Celtic enquired about a possible move for Naismith in late July but Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies claimed the Scottish champions then failed to follow up a verbal offer.

Jefferies hails Naismith

Quote:
Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies admits that the deadline-beating sale of Steven Naismith to Rangers was a double-edged sword.
"At the end of the day, the club got the £2m that we were looking for all along," Jefferies said of the deal that took the summer to complete.

"The only down side for me was that I did not have time to bring someone in as a replacement.

Jefferies explained that Kilmarnock rejected two new offers from Rangers on Friday before the deal was concluded a minute before the midnight deadline.

"Rangers were obviously desperate to get him," Jefferies told BBC Sport.

"I signed Ryan Jarvis as cover for Paul Di Giacomo, who I let go out on loan as he wanted games.

"But Ryan is a young lad and has still to adapt to Scottish football.

"I took a call this morning because I had someone lined up if Steven moved, but it was too late to do anything and I now have two injured players on the bench."

But Jefferies wished the 20-year-old Naismith well with his new club.

"He has handled it terrifically well and I wish him all the best," said the Killie boss.

"It was great to work with him and be part of bringing him along.

"He is a terrific talent with a great attitude and will go on to great things."

Rangers manager Walter Smith admitted that he thought he would have to wait until January before securing Naismith's signature.

Jefferies (right) said the £2m deal was good for Kilmarnock

"We always thought that he would end up here as he wanted to play for Rangers," said Smith.

"But, at five to 11, Kilmarnock agreed to transfer Steven and we just managed to get there before 12."

Meanwhile, Naismith admits he had resigned himself to staying at Rugby Park.

"As the day progressed, I did not think it was going to happen," he told BBC Sport.

MY SPORT: DEBATE
I have it on good authority he would rather have stayed at Killie than went to Celtic

Gravesen_Gump

"I was heading for my bed at 11 o'clock and, by five past 11, I was in my car and we made it with a couple of minutes to spare."

The Scotland international signed a day after Rangers were paired with Barcelona, Lyon and Stuttgart in the Champions League group stages.

"It's great to be at a massive club like Rangers and, as they have shown this week, they are not just massive in Scotland," added Naismith, who made his debut as a substitute in Rangers' 4-0 win over Gretna.

"And I am pleased to be a small part of that."

Default Aberdeen Vs Killie

Kilmarnock 0-1 Aberdeen

Miller scored the only goal of a tight game at Rugby Park
Aberdeen secured victory courtesy of a Lee Miller header in a hard-fought encounter at Rugby Park.
Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium as both sides missed recently-departed strikers.

Kilmarnock struggled without Steven Naismith after his £2m move to Rangers, while Aberdeen were without Craig Brewster, who left to manage Inverness.

Miller scored the only goal of the game after 54 minutes when he headed home from Michael Hart's flick-on.

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies was forced into four changes following Naismith's last-minute move to Rangers and injuries to Danny Invincible, Ryan O'Leary and Garry Hay.

Simon Ford, Willie Gibson, Gary Wales and David Lilley came in as the Ayrshire side looked to continue their promising start to the season.

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood, who has been linked with the vacant manager's post at Leicester, brought in Lee Miller and Steve Lovell up front after Craig Brewster returned to take charge of Inverness.

Calderwood handed Derek Young his first start since returning to the club and restored Richard Foster to the line-up.

Dons skipper Scott Severin and Zander Diamond were ruled out with Achilles injuries and Darren Mackie was on the bench.

Rhian Dodds had the first effort on goal after half an hour when his shot from the edge of the area scraped Soutar's crossbar and flew over.

The home fans claimed for a penalty when McNamara tangled with Nish after Allan Johnston's deep cross, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Lovell spurned a great chance just before half-time when he headed wide from 10 yards after a great cross from McNamara.

The visitors looked more threatening in the second half and took the lead in 54 minutes.

Jamie Smith's corner was headed on by Michael Hart and Miller made no mistake from 12 yards.

Kilmarnock pressed for an equaliser but clearly missed the creativity and goalscoring touch of Naismith.
