It would be awesome if some of these other owners would buy into the MLS because I would love to see Silicon Valley/Bay Area rivalries with San Francisco and Oakland.

This what MLS or US soccer needs IMO. Same here on the East Coast there needs to be multiple rivalries in short distance, a few teams in the NYC/NJ area, atleast 1 in upstate NY, Phily and Baltimore to go along with the Revs and DC United.

Because California needs another team
Seattle? SoFla? Philly? Instead they give it to a place that just lost a franchise?

I hear you but it's nice to have Earthquake back and California has a strong base for soccer to succeed. The point I was trying to make is that region has the money etc for it to work and that it gives what the league needs a local/regional rivalries.
I've been a huge proponent to get teams in soccer crazed cities such as Rochester, Phily and St. Louis.
That said I'm all for a Seattle and Portland getting clubs because not only would they be good fits IMO but they would also give the league some natural regional rivalries.
As for South Florida, NO. Pro sports minus the NFL's Miami Dolphins don't work for what ever reason, I guess it's to nice and people are at the beach and getting laid to get to a game.

Good for San Jose and good for MLS. Best part is that yet another soccer-specific stadium will be built. This virtually guarantees financial success, as the venue will also be used for other events, generating more revenue.
Garber has been doing a wonderful job at building MLS. Without succumbing to the excesses of the old NASL, the league has taken and executed a very smart, patient and diligent business plan. The growth of soccer is now unquestionable. Would be really interesting to see what things will be like 10-15 years from now.
