Roma have been linked with a loan move for Inter striker Julio Cruz.
’El ’jardinero’ (the gardener) as the player is known, is fifth in Roberto Mancini’s pecking order of strikers, and his agent has suggested that a move to the Stadio Olimpico would appeal.

The player’s wage demands may be a stumbling block, but it is believed that in return for regular first-team football, he would be willing to accept less than he is currently on at Inter.

The next few days will be decisive in this operation.

I think he would do well with Roma, and certainly be a better alternative, then what you have at the moment.

Julio Cruz could be the Giallorossi’s new centre-forward after his agent confirmed talks were in progress, but their injury woes continue.


“We do know of Roma’s interest,” announced representative Jorge Cyterszipilar, “and there has already been some official contact with Inter.”


The Capital club is desperate for a new striker after John Carew’s return to Valencia and the precarious fitness of both Marco Delvecchio and Vincenzo Montella.


Although Parma’s Alberto Gilardino remains the number one choice, Julio Ricardo Cruz would be more affordable and eligible for the Champions’ League, as he did not play against Basel.


“Despite the fact he is happy at Inter,” added the former Bologna man’s agent, “Julio wants to have more first team football and Roma are a very big club. We will wait and see what happens, but there is already good progress in negotiations.”


It is becoming an increasingly pressing problem for the Giallorossi, as Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano have barely set foot on the field all summer.


The captain is suffering from a sprained knee, while Cassano has not played at all since Euro 2004 with a series of niggling injuries.


“I am satisfied with the work we are doing,” said Coach Cesare Prandelli on his 47th birthday, “above all on the transfer market. Philippe Mexes, Matteo Ferrari and Simone Perrotta are three very important buys and there is still time for the fourth arrival.”


Roma will present their new-look squad to the fans at the Stadio Olimpico on August 29 with a friendly game against the Iranian national side.

He's definitely, NOT like Carew. He's actually very good on FKs, not that he will be taking any, as long as Totti is on the field...but still.

yeah the Carew comparison was cruel. Julio is a good player and proven in serie a also my mum has always liked him as well (since he went through a bad patch)

I really hope Totti & Cassano are healthy before the season starts.

AS Roma are still searching for the striker to complete a currently very good, but not yet great side.
The names are the usual ones, Gilardino and Luis Fabiano, even though the Giallorossi are staying in contact with Inter for what concerns the services of ‘El Jardinero’ Cruz.

With regards to Gilardino, nothing will be decided until the end of the Italian football teams’s Olympic expedition, of which the Parma striker is part of, while new information comes from the Luis Fabiano front as Sao Paolo are ready to negotiate a joint ownership with Roma, with the sale price fixed around 5 million Euros.

Fiorentina are also targetting the Brazil international, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He's cup tied now, and unlikely to be picked up by the capital club.

Julio Cruz’s proposed move to Roma now looks unlikely after he played for Inter in Europe last night.

The Argentine was being tipped to join the capital club as their search for a target man continues.

However, the fact that he has now played in the Champions’ League means he would be cup-tied if he moved to Rome.

The former Bologna ace came on as a 67th minute substitute in the 4-1 win over Basel on Tuesday evening.

The Giallorossi will now be expected to turn their attentions to Valencia’s Bernardo Corradi or Brazilian ace Luis Fabiano.

However, there is a chance that they could make a fresh bid to land Parma ace Alberto Gilardino.

Fabiano would do well in Roma. I really liked his performance during the Copa america and i think this kid has a bright future.

He would do well, and is the odds on favourite to join the club, from what I've read.
