Default Vucinic joins the Giallorossi

Vucinic has been finally signed by Roma one day before the end of the transfer window:

Quote:
UEFA Champions League contenders AS Roma have strengthened their attacking options by signing Serbian international Mirko Vučinić from relegated US Lecce for an initial €3.3m.

Final details
The Giallorossi will pay a further €7.5m for the 22-year-old forward next summer should they decide to commit to a permanent transfer, with Vučinić then receiving a contract until 2011. "We have finalised the last details of the deal - Vučinić will play for Roma," said Lecce sporting director Guido Angelozzi. In addition, the capital club have taken Brazilian defender Rodrigo Defendi on loan from Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Prospect
Vučinić, who joined Lecce in 2000, is considered one of Italian football's brightest talents. He made his Serie A debut, ironically against Roma, in 2001 when he was 18 and has scored 29 goals in 74 games over the last three seasons. He should be eligible for Roma's UEFA Champions League group-stage opener against FC Shakhtar Donetsk on 12 September. The 20-year-old Rodrigo, meanwhile, was loaned to Roma's domestic rivals Udinese Calcio last term, playing four matches.

I hope Roma sign at least one more player by the end of the transfer window,
but that ends in a few hours

i'd start Doni.....those 4 goals were a result of bad defence and being overconfident. Doni showed his great ability last season and i was very comfortable with him between the poles. Curci is a good latent, however, he made some very costly goals last season. Give him some more time and he will earn his place!

Just my 2 cents

Not with Chivu and Mexes...Curci makes mistakes a lot, then so does Doni.

Really unfortunate that Roma could not make this happen. I feel their style of play, and their need for a striker would suit the young Argentine.

It’s a dream, says Vucinic
Thursday 7 September, 2006
Mirko Vucinic says he’s delighted with his summer move to Roma. “It’s a dream come true,” he stated.

The Montenegrin striker arrived in Rome from Lecce on a loan deal worth £2.2m and admits that joining the Giallorossi was always an ambition.

“I wanted to come at all costs, this is a dream come true,” said Vucinic in Rome on Thursday evening.

“The club proved that they believe in me. I received many offers, but I was enchanted by the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico,” added the 22-year-old.

“I was impressed by Coach Luciano Spalletti, he is an excellent tactician and I like the way he approaches his men.

“My former Coach Zdenek Zeman told me to stay in Lecce and score 20 goals, I will now try to put his precious advice in practice here at Roma.”

Vucinic insisted that he is ready to adapt to Spalletti’s tactics and says he is at the tactician’s total disposal.

“I am not a battering ram, but Roma play a fast game and I think I could adjust to this easily,” he noted. ”But all decisions will depend on the Coach.

“I am willing to play further back if Francesco Totti is confirmed as a lone striker, I have no problems playing as a Trequartista, I will do what Spalletti asks me to do.

“The Scudetto? I think Inter and Milan are favoured in the race for the title, but we all know that what counts is the pitch.

“However, this will be a very different championship without Juventus.”

Vucinic is recovering from a knee inflammation and therefore will not be part of the team who will debut against Livorno on Saturday at the Stadio Olimpico.

Well, if the "other" Mancini is convinced he can find time for six strikers, surely Lucianone can find time for three?

After all, your lot have a bit of history in this regard, as you will no doubt recall if you around for the Bati, Montella, Delvecchio, etc. era.

My guess is that Spalletti and the Sensi think that they need the likes of Vucinic as cover given the demands of the Champions League, but that sounds dangerously close to Moratti-type reasoning.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but just how are Roma paying anyone's wages?

According to several newspapers in Spain, you will have Real Madrids Cicinho in January on loan.

Default Roma take Silva on trial

You've signed CSKA Sofia's Brazilian defender Tiago Silva on a 20-day trial with a view for a permanent deal.
