I don't think so. He will join a minnow and try to build them up first, if he can't go to Roma.

I don't think he's going anywhere for a few years yet, good thing going on at Milan.

Mazzone considers Roma comeback

Quote:
The Giallorossi are looking for a new Coach next season and lifelong Roma fan Carlo Mazzone has refused to rule out a return.

“Would I go back to Roma? Never say never,” he told Calcio2000 magazine. “I have a strong rapport with the Sensi family and the whole city. I still don’t know what I’ll do when I ‘grow up’.”

The 68-year-old tactician has already taken charge of his hometown club between 1993 and ’96, twice earning a fifth-placed finish.

Roma will need a new Coach at the end of this season, as Bruno Conti has already confirmed he has no intention of staying on past this brief stop-gap position.

Meanwhile, Mazzone can look forward to the Derby della Capitale and support his beloved club from afar.

“When I was in charge, we won 3-0 in 1994-95. For a week beforehand the newspapers all said Lazio had better players, except for the Aldair-Chamot comparison. I was the country bumpkin, while Zdenek Zeman was a scientist of football. It was one of the few times I went under the Curva to celebrate with the fans, as we were drunk with joy.”

Mazzone also started Francesco Totti’s Serie A career as a sixteen-year-old, though the captain will miss this derby due to a five-match ban for punching Siena’s Francesco Colonnese.

“Totti is a strong Roman through and through, so when he loses then it hits him five times harder than any of his teammates,” added the Coach. “Perhaps he feels too much responsibility, as I think that when Roma lose he is ashamed to walk around the city.”

If Roma hired Mazzone so can we count that Totti stay in Roma next season...

I'd rather Prandelli.

And to be honest as much as i love and admire mazzone for what he's done in the past I think he might just be too old for the job now.

Apparently Totti wants Zeman.

Default Roma move ‘possible’, says Zeman

Quote:
Lecce boss Zdenek Zeman has admitted that he could win the race to become the next Roma Coach.

The Czech tactician has been linked with a return to the Italian capital and he’s opened the door for a summer switch.

"I had a very good relationship with President Franco Sensi," stated Zeman on Monday afternoon.

"Could I return to the Giallorossi bench? I’m not quitting the game so it is possible. Everybody would like the chance to boss Roma."

The capital outfit are looking for a new boss given that caretaker Coach Bruno Conti will stand down after the Coppa Italia Final next month.

Zeman is a contender as his Lecce contract expires in June and it is still not clear whether he will remain.

However, Zeman also revealed last week that he has been approached by Palermo to replace Francesco Guidolin.

To complicate matters further, Guidolin has joined Giovanni Trapattoni, Serse Cosmi and Luciano Spalletti as possible Roma targets.

Even if the latter insists that he hasn’t received any type of offer from the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

"The only thing I can say for sure is that I haven’t been contacted by any other clubs," the Udinese tactician stated.

Zeman spent two seasons with Roma between 1997 and 1999 after he was sacked by city rivals Lazio.

Zeman in Roma?.. hum..

Totti wpuld be pleased. I'm not so sure he's right for Roma. But my list for managers is:

1. Prandelli (wants la viola)
2. Spaletti (Got a good thing at Udinese)
3. Cosmi (apparently favourite a few weeks back)
4. Zemen (great for the strikers but our defence is bad already)

Question Trap opens door to Roma?

Quote:
There are strong reports emanating from Portugal that Giovanni Trapattoni will return to the Italian Capital as a Coach, but not for Lazio as had been suggested.

For the last few weeks rumours have linked Trap to the Biancocelesti post and he has confirmed several times that he misses the Peninsula and wishes to return.

Fresh from the success of winning the Portuguese League title with Benfica, the former Italy Coach is set for a comeback, but new reports suggest it is with Roma and not their local rivals Lazio.

“I miss Italy and am ready to return,” he said earlier this week. “If someone is interested and still believes in me, then I will be happy to say yes. The big clubs are currently all sorted with their managers, but I am in no hurry and could happily rest for a few months.”

The Giallorossi are certainly looking for a new tactician after Bruno Conti’s time in charge earned all of two victories in all competitions since taking over in late March.

“Coming to Portugal was an experience I needed after the Italy job,” continued Trap. “I wanted to prove to myself what my talents were and I understood that I am still a ‘young’ and up to date Coach. I’m now looking for a new test.”

wow! could Trapa win the lo Scudetto to Roma next season???

I'm not sure this is the direction Roma want to head, however they've been through so many coaches in such a short time. Hard to replace the best?

Impossible. Well not really, if you follow the path of distruction the bad times really began to take place after Prandelli had to leave. I believe that he was the ideal replacement. We had a new setup, we know what he can achieve from clubs with young players, and I don't think we'd have been fighting relegation. Maybe there wouldn't even be the Totti/Cassano contract issue...

Sadly all speculation.

Toni snubs Roma option

Palermo striker Luca Toni has told Roma to forget about making a summer move for his services.

Rumours suggest that the capital outfit would look to sign the ace if Francesco Guidolin, who left Palermo last week, is named as the new Giallorossi boss.

"I’m disappointed that Guidolin has gone," admitted the Italian international. "But if he joined Roma and wanted to sign me, I don’t think I would follow him."

The target man joined the Sicilian giants two years ago and has scored 50 League goals, in Serie B and A, since he put pen to paper.

He now wants to continue his Stadio Renzo Barbera adventure and is confident the appointment of Gigi Del Neri is a fine move for the future.

"I have a lot of belief in the project of President Maurizio Zamparini," continued the former Brescia forward.

"We’ve signed Del Neri and we are in the UEFA Cup next season. All the signs suggest that we will do well in the new campaign."

Meanwhile, Genoa boss Serse Cosmi insists he has no intention of sitting on the Roma bench next term.

"I still have two years left on my contract here and intend to respect it," he stated. "There is a serious project in place.

"Roma? I have had no official contact with anyone, neither Roma or any other club."

he would be a great signing for Roma...
