Roma and Monaco have confirmed that French starlet Jeremy Menez will be wearing the Giallorossi shirt next term.

The two clubs agreed a deal yesterday but waited until the 21-year-old attacking midfielder had passed a medical to announce the transfer.

The fee hasn't been officially declared but it is widely believed that the Eternal City side have paid £12m.

“Monaco and Roma have reached an agreement for the transfer of Menez,” a statement from Monaco read.

“Menez arrived in Monaco in 2006 and he played 64 matches, scoring 14 goals in all competitions in our jersey.”

The talented new recruit has won comparisons to both Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane in the past and he first caught the public's eye back in 2005 when he became the youngest ever player to score a hat-trick in the French League.

yeah who needs suazo for now, if another striker is what we need, we can look to okaka.he can break in our squad given the time n chance.by next season im seeing him as a starter for us.

you know whats the next best thing about his transfer??we've been cussing and cussing and getting mad all summer and finally our club gave us very very huge present.

thin if we made a mistake by getting mutu wth that price tag, i doubt we could have got this diamond wch worth way more.now im really thankful that our directors took a very slow approach.a very careful approach.

Roma release Menez maths Friday 29 August, 2008

Roma have published the details of the transfer that brought Monaco starlet Jeremy Menez to the Stadio Olimpico yesterday.

The Giallorossi completed the signature of the 21-year-old French talent after he passed a medical in the Eternal City yesterday but the fee wasn't immediately declared.

However, a statement from the Lupi this morning has given all the financial details of the transaction.

“For the acquisition of Menez's rights, Roma will pay Monaco £8.5m in four instalments,” the club's declaration reads.

“The first payment of £2.5m will be made when the contract is signed, the second £2.5m before August 31, 2009, the third £2.5 before August 31, 2010 and the final £1m before December 31, 2010.

“Additionally, Roma will pay an extra £1.3m if they are involved in the Champions League in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons.

“The player will receive £1.9m for the 2008-09 and 2009-2010 campaigns, £2m for the 2010-2011 season and £2.2m for 2011-2012 as well as bonuses.

“The player has the right to rescind his contract in the event of a bid of £20m.”

the numbers behind his move, and i have to say its a very good one.

If someone makes an offer that is too good to resist...then it's only smart business. But, after a couple years in Rome, he will get adjusted to life in Italy and never want to leave. They will condition him to be Roman.

Jeremy Menez reveals he turned down interest from Manchester United to join Roma. “The Giallorossi play the best football in Italy and I’m here to win.”

The 21-year-old French sensation completed his £8.5m move from Monaco this week and held his presentation Press conference, unveiling shirt Number 24.


“It is a great pleasure to play for this squad with such wonderful players. I am very happy. I watched Roma on television in France and they play the best football in Italy. I can only get better by being here.


“There was contact with other clubs, particularly Manchester United, but Roma were the side that wanted me the most. I am here to play and win, hopefully starting from Sunday.”


Considering Francesco Totti’s injury setback, it is possible Menez will be given his Serie A debut against Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend.


The youngest ever player to both sign a professional Ligue 1 contract and score a hat-trick in that division, Menez has been compared to both Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Cassano.


“I don’t like comparisons, as each player is different and I have it all to prove. I can say Zidane was my idol growing up, as he was for most French kids, and he too played in Serie A. This is the real testing ground.


“There are such passionate fans in Italy and I hope to find a place in their hearts. I intend to be here for a very long time.”
