I'm confident that Spalletti will use both Julio and Simone simultaneously, especially later in the match when we sub Taddei. Sounds like Spalletti prefers Taddei over Perrotta. Simone may spend a lot of time on the bench this season.

Vieri said that money USED to be important for him (who could blame him...32 million does have an effect on your life) but now he wants to play Calcio as long as he can...IMO it takes a big person to admit that. Well I wouldn't say that he's staying with a club...he's like Toni or Baggio that change club more often than they change socks

Yep...he signed for Samp last year, but they terminated his contract because of the differences in interests between him and the management...but then he went to fiorentina...where he had a great season for someone as old as him...but too many people judged his season on one game

Beast hungry for Roma success Friday 22 August, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julio Baptista has given his first interview as a Roma player and has set his heart on scoring against city rivals Lazio.

After missing out on Fiorentina ace Adrian Mutu, the Giallorossi turned to Baptista and agreed a deal with Real Madrid.

The Brazilian hitman endured a miserable year at the Bernabeu, but he is ready to re-launch his career in the Eternal City.

“It wasn't an easy time but I am happy now to be welcomed at Roma, who are such a great club,” Baptista told the club's official website.

“I am in good shape and I am ready to be at the Coach's disposal. I want to show my value.

“I think Roma have great players and real fighters in the ranks and we will battle together for lots of targets.

“I haven't set myself a target number of goals, but I am aiming for lots and to avoid injuries.

“How did I get the nickname 'The Beast'? It was because I am powerful and tough to stop - there isn't a negative connotation.

“I am looking forward to the derby and I would really like to score against Lazio but the important thing is that the team win.”

Baptista could make his debut in the Italian Super Cup this Sunday.

it would be uber sweet to see him bag 1 or more against those stinking eagles.

The Beast's birthday gift
Wednesday 1 October, 2008
Birthday boy Julio Baptista celebrated with two goals in Bordeaux and explains what he thinks has been going wrong for Roma.

“We didn’t start very well, but in the second half we pushed forward more and managed to turn it around,” he said of the 3-1 Champions League win.

“We couldn’t keep possession in the first period and that made a huge difference, allowing us to move better after the break.

“My speciality is free kicks, so when I get the chance I like to take them!”

The Giallorossi netted three goals in quick succession, but for most of the match they were trailing 10-man Bordeaux.

It was the latest sluggish performance – above all psychologically – in a season that has not lived up to expectations.

“I think injuries have been behind the difficulties the team has had so far this season, as the Coach never gets the chance to field the same line-up regularly.”

Baptista came off the bench to score a brace on his 27th birthday and has so far struggled to impress in the Roma jersey.

“I played for a team that had very different style of football, so naturally it will take time for me to settle and learn the movement, but I am on the right road.”

atta boy', now go and get us more of those braces

Baptista loves Roma response Sunday 12 October, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julio Baptista's Roma career has so far been hit by injuries, but he could not be more pleased with the reception he has received.

“The way Roma are making me feel important is wonderful, it proves they really believe in me,” he told Brazilian news agency Globoesporte.

“It is crucial for a player to feel he has this support. Everyone in Rome gave me a warm welcome.

“There are many Brazilians there and they gave me a great hand in settling in quickly.”

'The Beast' scored a fantastic brace in the 3-1 Champions League win away to Bordeaux, but that was one of the few highlights in a dire season so far for the Giallorossi.

“The only negative thing is that we have started quite badly in terms of results, but that is mainly down to injuries to many first team players,” assured Baptista.

“This team is very strong and we will certainly be able to react to this difficult time and fight to the end for every competition.”

The former Real Madrid and Arsenal man was one of those affected by fitness worries, as he was out of action for a month with a thigh strain.

Now the Brazilian has been sidelined yet again with a tear in his right thigh muscle and he is not expected back until the October 22 clash with Chelsea.

At least there is good news from captain Francesco Totti, who is in intensive training to be ready for next Saturday's Serie A showdown with Inter.

a stop and go so far for our man, but if he can sustain an injury free run we could see the best of him.

Agent believes in Beast Wednesday 12 November, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The agent of Roma striker Julio Baptista has promised that the Brazilian forward will make his mark in this weekend's Derby della Capitale.

Baptista is yet to truly make his mark at the Stadio Olimpico and has been blighted by injury problems.

But the man nicknamed 'The Beast' is expected to start against Lazio on Sunday evening and his representative believes he will rise to the occasion.

“If Luciano Spalletti gives him the chance to play, I'm sure he will have a great game,” Herminio Menendez told Romagiallorossa.com.

“He doesn't have any physical problems at the moment and he is raring to go.

“Julio knows well what it means to play in a derby here in Rome and he wants to make an important contribution.

“He is the kind of player who never fails in these big matches. Baptista excelled when he played for Sao Paulo against Corinthians, Arsenal against Chelsea and Real Madrid against Barcelona.”

some stats there, well lets see if he can excel in this side of the rome derby.
