Default Serie A' MD38: A.S Roma - Catania [18-05-08]

Roma

@

Catania

This is by far the most important match in Serie A this season as the Scudetto title comes down to the final match day. Inter lead the league with 82 points and Roma trail by one point at 81. Roma need nothing more then a victory to hopefully win the title and hope for Inter to drop points at Parma by either a loss or a draw. Roma fans will not be in attendance for this match in Catania as FIGC has banned fans from attendance due to potential fan violence. This will surely not sit well with the Roma management as they need the support of the Ultras to motivate them on the road.

Roma do not control their own destiny as they must hope that Parma do them a favour and steal some points from Inter. Parma have fired their head coach Cuper just days before this match and hopefully Parma can keep their composure and put in a good effort against Inter. Inter have been on cruise control this past season, virtually dominating every team week in and week out. Internal problems with coaching/management/players have cause Inter to lose valuable points and thus resulting in Roma climbing within touching distance for top spot.

Regardless of what happens this game, all Romanisti must be proud of the season Roma had this season. Going to the final eight of Champions League, reaching the Coppa Italia finals and battling for the Serie A title on the last match day of the season. This team has heart and determination and we should all stand in applause for the Romans for their efforts this season.

Roamnst will either be on top of the world come Sunday or be heartbroken. Either way...Sempre Forza Roma!

Totti: Forza Inter???

You can tell Totti is superstitious...

Quote:
Superstitious Totti backs Inter
Tuesday 13 May, 2008

While Francesco Totti sticks to his superstitious guns, the Lega Calcio tries to find a way in which the Roma fans can travel to Catania after all.

The lead has been cut to just one point, but Er Pupone has decided his system of assuming Inter have the Scudetto under wraps is working.

“We have a slightly better chance than before, but even when we were at –11 points the team still believed,” commented Totti.

“Now we are –1 and have one more game to go, but certainly at the end of the day Inter will win it.”

He said the same for the past three weeks, but the Nerazzurri have repeatedly stumbled when given the opportunity to seal up the Scudetto.

“Superstition is our only extra weapon now! I don’t know if Inter are the stronger team, as the statistics suggest we more or less evened out over the course of the campaign.

“They just had one more draw than we did and besides I think Roma played the best football in Italy and Europe. Unfortunately at this moment Inter are in front, so if they should take the title we’d stand and applaud.”

In order to conquer the Scudetto, Roma would need to win away to Catania and see Inter fail to pick up all three points in Parma.

However, fears over security in the Stadio Massimino have prompted the Sicilian police force to ban Giallorossi supporters from travelling.

“The Roma fans must be able to go to Catania, because this is the football we want to see without any disparity,” slammed Lega Calcio President Antonio Matarrese.

“It is a decision that would inevitably create a split and I don’t want the Lega to break off its collaboration with the security detail.”

The Osservatorio was set up to help stem football-related violence by analysing games with the highest risk of trouble and taking steps to prevent it, going so far as to ban travelling supporters altogether.

This has been done many times over the campaign, but allowing Inter’s fans to be there to cheer their side on at Parma and not grant Roma the same rights would be considered favouritism.

“Nobody doubts there are difficulties in policing the matches, but these have to be taken under control,” continued Matarrese.

“It wouldn’t be a walk in the park, but we cannot accept this situation. We have to end this season on the right note.

“Seeing as the Osservatorio will remain on the case until Sunday, we demand a concrete decision by Thursday.”

Roma fans have been banned from traveling. Complete bullshit. Inter and Milan have been heavily favoured in terms of these fan bans this season. Anything to give them an advantage.

When Juve played away to Inter and Milan this season, no travelling fans were allowed, yet Milan and Inter fans were allowed in Turin. Luckily, the determination of our squad made 80,000 home fans a non-factor.

I hope u win, but u have choked this season when it has counted. U should at the very least be tied with them, and if it were not for 10+ pts that Inter have gained this season from scandalous victories (at the very least. I'm not including the games that were very close until Inter got a dubious decision than went on to win by 2 goals) , than Roma would be 1st.

The manner Inter have "won" the last 2 "titles" is a tragedy to sport's. A stolen title, a title with no competition and now potentially a title they cheated to win. Do Italian football a favour and do your part by winning this game, and hope for the best in Parma.

Totti got fined 8,000 making the same point...I don't like to judge teams unless they are proven guilty, but in some cases this year...Inter have had the better of calls. But, on the field the players do show their class...when Ibra was fit and healthy, Inter did dominate the game by their play. It would be nice to see the statistical advantages/disadvantages Inter have received this season. Whether it be penalties, yellows, red etc.

Here's Totti's comments...basically all year long.

Quote:
“It seems to me that Inter receive some help,” he raged the day after the game.

“They win because they are the best or because they have help. When Roma slip up they lose, but that never happens to Inter.”
channel4.com - Football Italia

Quote:
“The European referees treat Inter differently,” he told Rete Sport. “For them, Inter or Liverpool are two clubs like any other, it makes no difference. Those referees can officiate without being conditioned.”
channel4.com - Football Italia

Quote:
“I think that there is a bit of subconscious bias,” Totti stated in an interview with Sky Sport.

“Everyone is scared to speak out against Inter at the moment, but if they had the courage to say what they saw it would all be easier.

“I don’t think that Inter as a club come into it,” the World Cup winner clarified. “Their players are great and they are winning on the pitch, even if they are having a little bit of help.”
channel4.com - Football Italia

Quote:
“The ref had been having a good game until 15-20 minutes from the end and he ruined it all by sending off Mexes wrongly,” the 31-year-old bewailed to Romanews.eu.

“We played the better football and I was right to talk about refereeing help at the end.

Statistically, this season's table has been decided by more questionable calls than every season Moggi was in charge.

As for Totti getting fined. U raise a good pt. It's perfectly fine for Inter management to say controversial things though. One of the perks u get when your the leagues main sponsor.

utter madness by figc.i wonder for who the footballers play if its not for the fans.it might just be like our daily lives.wake up, clean our self an go to the office do our work then go home.

whats the point of having a stadium then?better have all future matches in a hall just like prom night.

well now on the match, as azzurri pointed we have been dismal when we needed the win, and i fear the same.yes 1 pt might seem like fueling us more but we had more then bigger motivation back then but still we slumped and failed.so im not hoping much for this final day.

parma are in ruins and inter will sure seize the moment as how united did last week.while we might be genorous enough to catania like we have done in the past.

well scudetto might be lost but a lot of gains we have made comparing the stats to last season..

Totti is always saying shit, and I have heard everything that Inter management have said, its no worse or better than what has been said by Roma or Milan's management.

Secondly, this is not a one time fine. This has been a fine directed towards his commulative efforts to discredit the rest of the league.

Inter will win against Parma.Sacking Cuper and not bringing back Di Carlo...mama mia.

Regardless this has been a sensational year. We've broken another record yet again this year.Albiet its a Roma record still smashing the old and creating a new one is great as always.

I think every player on our starting roster has scored bar Antunes which is acceptable since he doesnt play much.I dont count Pit since he's always injured .

Id like to thank you all for making this season memorable and great.Really to everyone on TS the Romanista's and most importantly Spalleti and the boys.Keep on rocking and FORZA ROMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

..oh yeah, banning Roma fans is probably directly related to the fact that they will "go" with Catania fans given the opportunity. These groups do not like each other.

On the other hand Inter or Milan tifosi have been very respectful of opposing Curvas.

I hope we win, we must win. However if we don't, then losing to Roma is not desired or wanted, but I respect it, and if Inter can't win, then that is fine by me.

I have ties to Roma and Fiorentina, and this year has been a good year in my family. Everybody has been happy.

My personal feeling is that it's 70%-30% for Inter to win the title. Inter dominated for 3/4 of the season and it comes down to one game. They won't let this slip away...there are too many professional/experienced players on the team. Had it been Inter-Roma on the final day....i would say it would 50-50. But, Inter will show the same intensity as they showed against Siena...crossing my fingers Parma has the game of their lives though.

excatly, plus who they meet is another bnus for them.parma must have the worst luck.

this is not the time of the season, nor the place they want to be meeting table topping inter.

even wth a young player they still score and win.balotelli really surprised me.

I actually think Roma have a very tough match. Catania is no push over, and at home they will be motivated and hard to play.

Zenga is coaching them, and he'll motivate them as he is Interati.

Now Roma have more than enough class to overcome them, but it won't be easy, and much harder than Atalanta.
