I don't care who Roma face as long as they are there.....even Juve!!!

But, based on the lack of activity in the transfer period...and lack of big name players, it's gonna take a miracle to reach the final.

The thread title is strange. The Stadio Olympico is hosting the final, not Roma.

UEFA will unveil the new visual identity created for the 2009 UEFA Champions League final in Rome at a ceremony in the Italian capital on Friday.

Two-tier ceremony
The design will be unveiled at a press conference held in the Sala del Consiglio (known as Sala Giulio Cesare) of the Palazzo Senatorio at Campidoglio at 11.30CET, with mayor of Rome Giovanni Alemanno, Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete, Italian Olympic Committee general secretary Raffaele Pagnozzi, final ambassador Bruno Conti and UEFA competitions director Giorgio Marchetti set to be in attendance. The Roma 2009 logo will then be presented to the city of Rome and its inhabitants in dramatic style at 18.30, as it is projected on to the Colosseum, with the use of a special architectural light projector.

Design concept
The UEFA Champions League final has, in recent years, been given an identity of its own with a unique logo, a design concept and an overall theme. The objective is to help promote the final and enhance the prestige of one of the world's biggest sporting events. The initial idea that inspired the creation of a new identity for each final was to develop a specific design with a distinctive flavour of the host city. The UEFA Champions League final will take place at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday 27 May 2009, the last time the fixture is held in midweek.

Ancient and modern touch for 2009 logo

UEFA has unveiled its new visual identity for the 2009 UEFA Champions League final in Rome, a design that combines today's competition trophy with the ancient Roman symbol of victory, a laurel wreath.

Ancient and modern Rome
Wreaths were worn by victorious emperors as they rode through the streets of Ancient Rome in carriages drawn by white horses, and have a special place in the city's history. Framing the main elements of the design is a stylised portrait of Rome's famous landmark, the Colosseum. Taken together, the different parts of the new identity reflect the city's history, architectural heritage and passion for football.

On paper and the web
The identity will appear in promotional material, tickets and web banners. It will also be supplied to all the official sponsors of the UEFA Champions League for use in publicity material and activities ahead of the final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Wednesday 27 May. Produced by the London-based graphic design and branding agency Radiant, its objective is to help promote the final and enhance the prestige of one of the world's biggest sporting events.

Dramatic screening at the Colosseum
Unveiled at a morning news conference in the Palazzo Senatorio on Rome's Campidoglio hill, the design will be presented to the city and its residents later in the day in dramatic style, as it is projected on to the Colosseum from 18.30CET.

Worldwide audience
Tickets for the final, the last to be held in midweek, will go on sale from 16 February. The match will be watched by a television audience of some 150 million people in more than 230 countries and territories.

Rome looking to stage best final yet

There could have been few grander settings for the launch of the 2009 UEFA Champions League final logo and design than the near 500-year-old Julius Caesar Hall in Rome's Campodoglio.

Location
A stone's throw from the Colosseum, the hall conceived by Michelangelo was a fitting venue for the unveiling of the 2009 final logo before scores of reporters, photographers and cameramen. At the focal point of the design is the UEFA Champions League trophy, sitting above a laurel wreath and below the words 'Hail the Champions'. The walls of the world-famous gladiatorial arena frame the trophy and the overwhelming colour is burgundy. "It is about harmonising the symbols of victory of ancient times with those of today," said UEFA competitions director Giorgio Marchetti, "and what better setting for our modern trophy than Rome."

Beautiful game
Italian Football Federation vice-president Demetrio Albertini, who lifted the European Champion Clubs' Cup three times as an AC Milan player, said: "Coming to the world's most beautiful city, we want to stage the most beautiful Champions League final so far. There is an embarrassment of riches in this city for travelling fans and we are prioritising security so that children and families will have no doubts about coming along to make up the crowd.

Home hopes
"Ultimately, though, the final is about the clubs and the players," Albertini added, "and I want to say good luck to the four Italian clubs – FC Internazionale Milano, AS Roma, Juventus and ACF Fiorentina. We hope to see them in the final."

Rome's role
Showing the kind of hospitality that supporters visiting the city can expect by offering the use of a hall normally reserved for council business, Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno described next year's 27 May showpiece as more that just a sporting occasion. "This is a great honour for the city to host such an event," Alemanno said. "It is a social event and we want to show the world what this great city can do. It is a way of cultivating our football but also of showing that our people, organisations and institutions can overcome any difficulties that may present themselves."

Founding fathers
Before the final takes place, the UEFA Champions Festival – a five-day celebration of football to be staged in the heart of the city – will form part of the build-up, while the launch of ticket sales is planned for 16 February, 100 days before the big game. In addition, the cup handover ceremony is scheduled for 21 April, a day known as 'Il Natale di Roma' which celebrates the foundation of Rome by twins Romulus and Remus in 753 BC.

Italian renaissance
Serie A teams have featured on the last two occasions the final was held in the Italian capital: Juventus defeating AFC Ajax in 1996, 12 years after Liverpool overcame Roma, with both finals being decided on penalties. Italian FA president Giancarlo Abete also hoped there would be Italian involvement on 27 May. "English clubs have dominated of late with two sides in last season's final, but it would be nice if at least one of our teams made it as has happened in the past," Abete said. "The key thing is to deliver a good event. UEFA has believed in us and we will deliver. It is fitting the match will be played at the Stadio Olimpico which bears the hallmarks of the Colosseum."

Facelift
Raffaele Pagnozzi, general secretary of the Italian Olympic Committee, promised that the stadium, whose capacity for the final will be 73,000, would be at its best: "There has been investment and the place will look just as good as the city."

UEFA reassure Roma over Final Friday 28 November, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UEFA have denied reports Rome is in danger of having the Champions League Final reassigned to another city.

There were rumours the Olimpico could be stripped of the hosting duties on May 27, 2009 after crowd trouble and “insufficient organisation” in Chelsea’s visit to Roma.

It was confirmed today that investigations have been opened into the use of fireworks and obstruction by spectators of the exits during the match on November 4, but that doesn’t mean assigning the Final to another stadium.

“I don’t know who put around such ridiculous rumours,” commented UEFA spokesman William Gaillard.

Italy’s FIGC director Demetrio Albertini also noted there was no risk of the Olimpico losing the Final.

“The security will be examined and prepared in every detail so that this will be the best Final ever.”

Olympique Marseille are also under investigation after fans threw missiles during the trip to Liverpool.

that better be so.after alredy so much done and spent on to it they cant possibly change the venue nor place.
