You haven't showed any form of non-respect to Real Madrid in your inlays, Jager!

Roma have an exciting team - but I don't think they'll become a really 'Big Gun' in near future. They're already off the title race as I can see it in Serie A now and they've to develop their game much to go wider and do it very well in this seasons CL. They did not dominate as I had believed tonight.

They'll get a tough one in Madrid, but IF they can kick Madrid out of Europe - they will get so much self-confidence that will help them wider.

I know Italian food is very good but is that really an excuse to always carry a knife around with you?

No, its not like English people don't stab people?

And your clever attempt at humour is anything but.

Well for whatever reason not at football violence...

Believe me, humour is the last thing on my mind with these constant attacks. But I'm sure it'll be the Paniards fault, a one off case and just media propaganda.

Sergio Ramos will miss the returmatch because of cards. With Pepe and Metzelder out too, things do not look that great in the defence.

One Madrid supporter got stabbed, but according to media he is fine.

What I dont understand is how the club can get penalized for something that a fan does outside the club grounds? I really dont understand things like this.If the club gets banned the fans will only do something worse next time around. The stadiums arent even owned by the team for goodness sake.

Yes its wrong of the person to get stabbed but it shouldnt be connected to AS Roma per say.Its a gray area but nut cases like these are not associated with the club.I really cant be much clearer.

In regards to Madrid not having fit players. It happens to all of us mate.Totti Taddie Perrotta Mexes and Juan were all unfit.Aquilani is fighting for full form.Come March 5th though I expect both squads to be fully fit ( hopefully) and give it one epic attacking match.

Thousands of people travel to Italy and Rome as tourists, and most, if not all have magical experiences. Rome is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

As for the violence, I don't support or condone it.

However, this is what I say to all fans who travel there for a game. Respect the opposing fans, to show them up, to parade like a rooster in the center of Rome, showing disrespect, and if you don't do these things, you should be fine.

I don't know the story on this stabbing, so I will not comment on it directly.

This has nothing to do with Roma the club or the game. Things that happen outside of the stadium should be dealt with by police, and those responsible should be charged and punished.

But as they say, it takes two TWO to tango. I don't believe for ONE minute that Roma fans or any Italian fan is going out intentionially stabbing supporters of other clubs without there being some sort of "tension" to begin with.

I'm sure they remember after they beat United at home, then got thrashed in the away leg.

i remember and thats why i was sooo fukin furious at the std o that i lost my voice screaming at all the dirty sicking play real showed.wankers.

well then again its still a good win and the right way to start he ko round.but im in a big caution here as we did the same last season so we need to go to spain and keep our heads cool and not hope or a draw instead go to spain wth the mentality of needing a win to qualify.

and lastly plz end the discussion on violence here coz its been a great game and lets stick to what happened on the field instead.and i really hope we dont discuss it any more.i was there at std o last night and every thing seemed in order.yes there was a fan stabbed but its just a small very small dick heads that DOES NOT REPRESENT THE REAL ROMA AND ROMA FANS.

Spalletti: No celebrations yet Tuesday 19 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luciano Spalletti has warned Roma not to rest on their laurels, as 2-1 is not a big advantage to take to Spain.

“We certainly showed maturity and learned from our previous mistakes. It was tough to concede so early against a great team like Real and you risk letting in bucketloads,” said the Coach.

Raul had given Madrid the lead just eight minutes in, but David Pizarro and Amantino Mancini turned it around.

“We were patient and waited for the right moment, kept playing our game and it was an open encounter. I think Roma deserved the win.

“Real did well to pass the ball around quickly in our rather dense midfield and that can cause problems, but we tried to speed the play up too and had several great scoring opportunities.”

The Giallorossi have been struggling of late in Serie A, but showed a newfound maturity in the Champions League.

“Today I didn’t get angry much, as the team did everything so well. A Coach always tries to give his contribution to the side and we knew Real were very dangerous on the flanks, so with those qualities it is not always our mistake that causes a goal.”

The second leg is at the Bernabeu on March 5 and Spalletti is already gearing up his squad.

“It will be a whole other game and we need another splendid performance. We cannot rest on our laurels.”

aye, skipper, i didnt celebrate that much after the final whistle coz my mind was already alternating between what happened last season and the future game in spain.

De Rossi: We're learning Tuesday 19 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniele De Rossi was proud of Roma’s maturity as they fought back from an early goal to defeat Real Madrid.

“It’s not easy to play Real, as they move the ball around like no-one else. They took the lead with a fortunate early goal, but Roma put in a great performance worthy of this crowd.”

Raul had deflected a wayward strike past Alexandre Doni after just eight minutes, but David Pizarro and Amantino Mancini turned it around.

“We have learned something from our past errors. After going 1-0 down in Manchester we poured forward trying to turn it around and you saw what happened,” he said of their historic 7-1 loss at Old Trafford.

“That thrashing matured us and we now have the patience to keep calm and reason our way back into the game.”

The second leg is in Madrid on March 5 and Roma have the advantage thanks to this 2-1 victory.

“We have the quality and an organised midfield, so there’s no reason we can’t do well at the Bernabeu too.”

how i wish we had this kind of mid set for every single serie a' game.is it that hard to ask for??or we are the bunch that doesnt learn right until it hits right up in our face??i hope its neither and we cont on our improvements and build on positives while making damn sure we dont repeat our negatives.

Amantino rehearsed Real strike Wednesday 20 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amantino Mancini reveals the winning goal against Real Madrid was worked out on the Trigoria training ground.

“We knew that Real had a lot of quality and could move the ball around well, so we went out there intending to hit them on the break.”

Francesco Totti trapped the ball and placed a wonderful disguised pass to free Mancini with the outside of his foot.

“These are moves we practice in training and the Coach always asks us to pass deep, so it went very well,” he said after the 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.

“We were fortunate and are very happy to have won an important game. We go to Spain with the advantage, but there is nothing definite, so we hope to do well in the second leg.”

Last season Roma also won the first leg of their quarter-final 2-1, but then went on to lose 7-1 away to Manchester United.

“We will not repeat the errors of Old Trafford! That can never happen again, as it was just inexplicable. We are more mature now and will have another great performance in Madrid.”

This goal has done wonders for Mancini’s self-esteem and his rapport with the fans, which has been in flux ever since contract renegotiations hit problems.

“We are discussing my new contract and are at a fairly advanced level, even if nothing is written down yet.”

The Brazilian also had a difficult relationship with teammate Totti, as they admitted they did not speak for two years.

“For two years we were a little iffy, as we are young lads and are quite proud, but even then we always gave our best on the field for Roma. Now we have sorted it all out.”

as long as it brings us the wins, i dont mind if they copied it from the text book

It's a decent result for Roma but to be fair with Madrid having scored the away goal they've got it all to do in the second leg.

If anything they could do with scoring in Madrid.

Canna confident for Madrid Wednesday 20 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Cannavaro is confident Real Madrid can still progress despite their 2-1 defeat and Roma’s talent for the counter-attack.

“It’s a shame, as we deserved something more today. Ruud Van Nistelrooy hit the post and there was a penalty on Royston Drenthe, while Roma scored with their only real chances,” said the 2006 World Cup winner.

“Robinho was missing and he allows you to get more pressure down the flanks, plus Ruud missed a goal he never usually does! Robinho should recover in time for the second leg and he is a decisive player.”

The 2-1 first leg result means Real must win at the Bernabeu, but that could leave them very open at the back.

“Roma are great on the counter, but then we are used to that, as the team always pushes forward and leaves me alone back there!

“We are a team who do not change our approach when we take the lead, we keep pushing and that can leave us open to conceding goals that other sides might not.”

Nonetheless, Cannavaro is confident his Real Madrid side can see off the Giallorossi in the second leg.

“I have to bet on Real getting through to the next round, as we have the desire and the quality to overturn the result.”

The Italy hero also commented on Francesco Totti’s changing career in a more advanced role.

“Francesco has changed his style of play, as he works as a centre-forward now and both goals had his influence.

“Even if he doesn’t dribble past three defenders the way he used to, he remains crucial for this team.”

Guti rues ruthless Roma Wednesday 20 February, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Real Madrid playmaker Guti feels that Roma were a little fortunate to triumph at the Stadio Olimpico last night.

Luciano Spalletti’s side bounced back from an early Raul goal to win 2-1 courtesy of David Pizarro and an Amantino Mancini masterpiece.

While the result leaves the tie evenly poised, Real enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and Guti believes the Merengues could have returned to Madrid with the tie under control.

“The result seemed a little unfair to me, but that’s how it goes against Italians,” the 31-year-old stated on the club’s official website.

“I’m happy with how we played, but certainly not with the final score, which could have been better. But they took their chances and this is the outcome.

“We started quite well and scoring the goal allowed us to settle, but they managed to hit back even though we controlled the game.”

Roma now have the tough task of defending the slimmest of leads at the Bernabeu on March 5.

“We will need to be calm to get through,” Guti said. “There are 90 minutes left and a 1-0 win will be enough.

“The support of our fans will be key and given the way we play I like our chances of progressing.”
