Pizarro, Ferrari, Mancini seem to be the most notable casualties at the moment. De Rossi has some slight problems in the Italy match as well.

Mancini back in business Friday 14 September, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amantino Mancini is finally ready to make his return from injury and is not concerned that Roma may have been doing well enough without him.

“I cannot wait to play, give my contribution and make my mark,” said the Brazilian winger.

The Giallorossi are top of the Serie A table, have not conceded a single goal in two games and beat Inter for the Italian Super Cup without the aid of Mancini.

“I do believe I have a long way to go yet, above all in terms of consistency, but I am sure that I can give even more to Roma.”

The arrival of Ludovic Giuly and fellow Brazilian Cicinho means there is more competition for places at the Stadio Olimpico this term.

“It is extra motivation to have more components of great quality in the side,” insisted Mancini on Sky Italia.

“I wouldn’t want to be in Coach Luciano Spalletti’s shoes, as there are so many options to choose from and who deserve to be first team players. I do believe that greater competition for places is a positive thing, though.”

The former Venezia man is set to make his comeback this Sunday afternoon against Reggina, hoping to keep Roma on top of the Serie A standings.

“I am so very happy to be back playing again and to be a part of this squad,” he concluded.

It is hoped he will also be fit enough to start in Roma’s Champions League opener with Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday evening.

mancini back from injury and is available for md3

Spalletti loses Panucci Saturday 15 September, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luciano Spalletti believes it will be a tough match with Reggina, especially as Christian Panucci and Mirko Vucinic are out.

“It will be a difficult game and we must not underestimate any opponent, let alone one that has played two great games with Atalanta and Torino,” said the Roma Coach.

“Reggina have changed a lot from last season, but they are a renovated squad, not one that has been taken to pieces.”

The Giallorossi are defending the Serie A leadership and their 100 per cent record ahead of the Champions League.

Amantino Mancini, David Pizarro, Juan and Matteo Ferrari are back in the side, but Panucci, Vucinic and Marco Andreolli have not made the trip down to Calabria.

“Ferrari is ready and I think he can play around 45 minutes. Juan trained well today, but we have to see how he reacts to that strain over the next few hours. In any case, we have the option of putting Marco Cassetti in central defence,” continued Spalletti.

“Mancini is back in training, but we have to keep a close eye on everyone’s progress so as not to run unnecessary risks.”

Roma squad: Curci, Cicinho, Juan, Mexes, Pizarro, Aquilani, Totti, Taddei, Giuly, Antunes, De Rossi, Esposito, Perrotta, Ferrari, Tonetto, Julio Sergio, Barusso, Mancini, Doni, Brighi, Cassetti.

we lose panucci and vucinic.2 new injuries for us.

We lost Doni mid match. He went down on an awkward jump for theh ball. Another player crashed into him. Curci came on in the 2nd half to replace him. Hope he will be ok for the CL match.

Ya, i think so as well. He probably had a bruise that needed to be dealt with immediately. Let's hope he's fine for tomorrow.

Totti receives injury boost Wednesday 24 October, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Totti’s ankle injury is not as serious as feared after scans ruled out damage to the ligaments.

The Roma captain is now facing a race against time to try and recover in time for the weekend’s epic battle against Milan.

When Totti limped off in last night’s Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon, it was suspected that he could be sidelined for months rather than weeks.

However, the prognosis looks more positive after today’s examinations and the 31-year-old was even able to participate in light training with the rest of the squad.

Rodrigo Taddei and Mauro Esposito have also started work with the football after spells on the sidelines.

Injured goalkeeper Alexander Doni played in the five-a-side games that concluded the session.
