Mexes to swell Roman ranks Thursday 25 September, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma could be set for a much-needed boost as key defender Philippe Mexes is close to returning from injury.
The French international stopper has been out of action since the Giallorossi's first game of the season against Napoli.
But Mexes was able to train with the rest of his teammates this morning and came through the rigors of the session unscathed.
Mexes could be ready to return to the starting 11 when Atalanta visit the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
However, Luciano Spalletti will still have to make do without captain Francesco Totti, David Pizarro, Julio Baptista and defenders Juan and Marco Cassetti.
The pressure is on the capital club to find their feet with three points this weekend as they are currently in 14th place

good, wth tough games coming up ahed, we will need every one in good condition.

Totti racing towards Inter Wednesday 8 October, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Francesco Totti could make his Roma comeback in the massive showdown with Inter, as medics blame “stress” for their many injuries.
The captain already raced back ahead of schedule from knee ligament surgery to face the Nerazzurri in the Italian Super Cup on August 24, missing the decisive penalty in the shoot-out.
He has made just one Serie A and one Champions League appearance since then, as the pain in his knee proved too much to continue.
Totti has been working on his physiotherapy and strengthening exercises and reports suggest he could well be back for the Serie A clash with leaders Inter in 10 days.
It is a match in which the Giallorossi desperately need their talismanic star, as they are struggling with just seven points from six games.
Totti is one of a number of injuries to have hit the side this season, including Mirko Vucinic, Marco Cassetti, Max Tonetto and David Pizarro.
“One of the causes behind the high number of injuries is the stress of the match situation, which clearly increases if the tie is more important,” chief medic Mario Brozzo told Teleradiostereo.
“A player can almost be compared to the fan who goes to the stadium, who feels the tension of one game more than another.
“The psychological strain is crucial and the facts back that theory up. In prestige games, injuries tend to be more frequent.”
Meanwhile, the Curva Sud group of Roma fans have released a Press statement assuring they will not be protesting at the Trigoria training ground.
If there are any protesters, claimed the group, they are doing so on a purely personal level and are not representing the ultra movement.
The statement also explained that if there is to be a meeting between the fan groups and the players or Coach Luciano Spalletti, it will be held in private and not announced beforehand.

at this point any one coming fit out of our doctors room is a welcomed boost.not just il capitano but any one.

Is this normal?Am I the only one who sees something wrong here?Does this happen in any other league? How does an ultra group release a press statement?

Baptista eyes early return Monday 13 October, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The agent of Roma striker Julio Baptista claims the Brazilian ace will return from injury ahead of schedule.
The hitman nicknamed 'The Beast' will miss the Giallorossi's next game against Inter due to an injury he sustained while on international duty.
But the problem isn't serious and representative Herminio Menendez thinks his client will be ready for action soon.
“Julio is looking to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible,” he told Laromasiamonoi.it.
“I don't know exactly when he will return but we will know more later this week.
“Julio is currently in Brazil to receive treatment but he is working hard and could reduce his recovery time as a result.
“He's doing his best to repair the damage ahead of schedule so that he can help his side.”
Roma are looking to erase the memories of their embarrassing defeat against Siena before the international break.

Totti injury setback for Roma Tuesday 14 October, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time is running out for Francesco Totti to regain fitness in time to face Inter this weekend, although he has started advanced training.
The captain has made just three appearances this season between the Italian Super Cup, Serie A and Champions League.
He has been working hard to be back for the big Scudetto battle with Inter and it seemed increasingly likely he would hit that target.
However, in today’s session he did some light running, working with the ball and practice shots for around 20 minutes, only to need an ice-pack on his knee.
The ligament that underwent surgery in April is still causing problems and it remains to be seen if Totti can be risked for such a big game.
Philippe Mexes and Christian Panucci are out of the Inter clash with a ban, the Frenchman picking up a three-match suspension for insulting the referee.

i doubt he will feature in the inter game.some how i feel this will be a very lengthy absence for our capitano.

Doni's D-day determination Monday 10 November, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni is desperate to play in next weekend's Derby della Capitale despite suffering a head injury on Saturday.
The struggling Giallorossi take on high-flying Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico next Sunday evening in the battle for bragging rights in the Eternal City.
There are fears that they could be without No 1 Doni, who sustained a head injury when he bravely flung himself at Marco Di Vaio's feet during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bologna.
“I think I will be able to play and I don't think I will have any major problems,” Doni told the Corriere dello Sport.
“In a week I expect everything to be fine, but I will have to see what the doctor says.
“It was just an accident. The medical team told me that Di Vaio's studs caused the wound to my head, but I didn't notice anything.
“I was scared at first, but I soon realised it was nothing too serious. I didn't have any headaches or dizziness, so I was able to leave the hospital and return to Rome with my teammates.”

Roma fear Totti absence Friday 14 November, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma have suffered another injury scare ahead of Sunday's Derby della Capitale as Francesco Totti limped out of training this morning.
Yesterday, Daniele De Rossi injured his wrist, but the problem wasn't as serious as initially feared and the Azzurri star looks likely to play against Lazio.
However, just as Luciano Spalletti breathed a sigh of relief, skipper Totti gave him a fresh headache.
The Giallorossi talisman reported a pain in his knee early in today's training session and put ice on his knee before leaving the action minutes later.
Spalletti faces a worrying wait to see whether Er Pupone will be fit to play in the Rome derby and De Rossi will also have tests tomorrow.
The good news for the Lupi is that goalkeeper Alexander Doni has made a positive recovery from his head injury and will be able to play without protective headgear

Spalletti gets gladiatorial Saturday 15 November, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s good news from Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi as Luciano Spalletti gets derby fever. “I wish we could play the derby every week.”
There were fears Roma would be without both talismanic homegrown players tomorrow night, but both Totti’s knee twinge and De Rossi’s wrist have responded to treatment. Only Rodrigo Taddei is in doubt with a muscular problem.
“My approach to the derby is following in the trail of fire blazed by Totti and De Rossi,” smiled the Coach.
“I learned how the derby is experienced here and am pleased it creates such strong emotions. I wish I could play a match like this every week, for the sensations it creates, the fight, the ‘ferocity.’”
There is more than mere bragging rights at stake this time around, as Lazio are 14 points clear of their rivals – although Roma have a game in hand against Sampdoria to be played in January.
Spalletti is well aware that failure in this tie would mean disaster in terms of their position in the table and above all psychologically.
“We have got to overturn this current trend. We are coming into the derby the way Lazio have done in recent years.
“There’s no need for me to motivate them any further, as all it takes is the affection of our fans and the name of the city that we carry on our shirts.
“We are aware of our current predicament and know that we have to turn it around. This game can open up important scenarios for us.”
The mood in the Biancocelesti camp is far more confident and Spalletti is not surprised at their current success.
“It is the confirmation of the work done by the club, team and Coach Delio Rossi. We have a superior potential, though, and know what we must do.
“We are aware that, like the match with Chelsea, the psychological factor is the one that makes the difference.”
Roma were in a deep crisis ahead of that Champions League clash, but went on to win 3-1.

Aquilani in line for Lecce Tuesday 18 November, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is nearing a return to action and could be ready to travel to Lecce this weekend.
The Azzurri ace has been sidelined for nearly a month since picking up a thigh injury in the Giallorossi's Champions League defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Aquilani sustained a second-degree tear in one of the muscles in his left thigh, but his rehabilitation has been successful and he will train with the rest of his teammates this week.
Reports suggest that the problem is now completely healed and that Aquilani nearly made his return in last weekend's Rome derby.
After being urged by the medical team not to risk the talented midfielder against Lazio, Luciano Spalletti is likely to include Aquilani in his squad for the trip to Via Del Mare.
