Totti books Cluj comeback Sunday 7 September, 2008

Francesco Totti is only expected to make his comeback in Roma's Champions League encounter with Cluj.

“He still has pain,” explained chief of medical staff Mario Brozzi. “With all likelihood he will only return for the game against Cluj on September 16.”

The captain is still struggling to find full fitness after damaging knee ligaments in a 1-1 draw with Livorno in April.

He made his competitive return in the Italian Super Cup, lost to Inter on a penalty shoot-out, but missed the Serie A opener with Napoli.

It looks as if Totti will also be out of action for the Giallorossi's trip to Palermo next weekend.

“Rodrigo Taddei is effectively fit now and will resume training with the rest of the squad from Monday.

“I would like to point out that Luciano Spalletti has never asked me to rush the recovery process of an athlete.”

Brozzi also noted that new signing Jeremy Menez “needs to recover his physical fitness and muscular tone.”

well no need to rush as pointed.age is catching up fast to il capitano and we need a broader view in getting him up to playing fitness.

Menez yes, Totti no for Palermo Tuesday 9 September, 2008

Francesco Totti is nearing fitness, but Jeremy Menez looks more likely to start against Palermo.

Last season's runners-up seemed to be missing inspirational captain Totti on the opening day of the 2008-09 campaign when they could only manage a draw with Napoli.

Totti came on as a substitute in the Italian Super Cup and is approaching match fitness, but may have to sit out this weekend's trip to Palermo.

“He is in good shape,” club doctor Franco Brozzi stated on Radio Incontro.

“For the first time in the history of sports medicine a player who has had a cruciate operation could return to action within four months.

“We are working to help him regain his muscle tone but we will only put him on the pitch when he is completely ready.”

Brozzi believes that French new boy Menez could be back in action very soon and may step in at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

“He had an operation three months ago on his back,” he explained. “In my professional career I have never thought that procedure is necessary.

“He should be able to play against Palermo - he just needs to train.

“Menez is in perfect physical condition and just needs to get over the small problems. In fact he had already played for Monaco in pre-season before he arrived with us.”

Totti relapse worries Roma Thursday 11 September, 2008

Roma's injury problems take a turn for the worse as Francesco Totti and Alexander Doni are almost certainly out for Saturday's trip to Palermo.

The Giallorossi have been without inspirational captain Totti since his serious knee injury against Livorno towards the end of last season.

However, the Lupi medical team had been talking about Totti recovering in record time ready to play against Palermo this weekend.

But that now looks unlikely after Er Pupone reported further knee pain in training this morning.

While the medical team insist that there is no need for panic, there are fears that Totti may even miss out on next week's Champions League opener against Romanian champions CFR Cluj.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Doni has also been trying to shake off a tendon problem but he was forced to withdraw from training early after suffering severe pain.

Simone Perrotta and Juan are also absent for Roma's Sicilian test, but Brazilian wide man Rodrigo Taddei should return.

i know this would surface at some point.its agiven he is getting older and recovery in a short time isnt viable.but one thing we can do now is give him the space to recover on his own tme.

Injured Mexes misses out Friday 12 September, 2008

Roma's injury crisis has intensified with the news that French international defender Philippe Mexes is out of action.

Luciano Spalletti was already without captain Francesco Totti, Simone Perrotta and Juan for the trip to Palermo tomorrow.

And now his selection problems have gone from bad to worse with Mexes sustaining an injury during France's World Cup 2010 qualifier against Serbia on Wednesday.

Mexes reported a pain in his left knee and the Giallorossi doctors decided that he shouldn't be risked in Sicily.

Summer signing Simone Loria, who joined from Siena, is likely to make his debut at the Stadio Renzo Barbera alongside Christian Panucci with John Arne Riise and Cicinho as wing-backs.

De Rossi to miss Cluj clash Sunday 14 September, 2008

Daniele De Rossi is ruled out of the Champions League opener with Cluj after sustaining a freak neck injury.

The Roma midfielder went to head the ball during Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Palermo when he suddenly screamed in pain and clutched his neck.


He immediately asked to be substituted and tests today confirmed he has strained a muscle in his neck, so De Rossi won’t be able to face Cluj on Tuesday.


It is another bitter blow for the Giallorossi, who are also likely to lose Philippe Mexes and Juan to injury.


The good news is that Francesco Totti is back in training after a recurrence of the knee problem that required surgery in March and could make his comeback in the Champions League tie.


The pressure is on after a stuttering start to the Serie A season, though director Bruno Conti was reassuring.


“The team and I am convinced we can get back to building upon what we achieved last year. Now we are looking to the future and Tuesday’s game. We are sure we will do well.”


Meanwhile, the referee for that match will be Russian Iouri Baskakov.

Baptista out for a month Sunday 21 September, 2008

Roma’s injury woes intensified with news Julio Baptista will be out for between 10 days and a month.

The Brazilian was not called up for the 3-0 victory over Reggina last night and tests have now confirmed the lesion to the thigh muscle.


“I feel pain in my right leg, but hope to only be out of action for around 10 days,” said the former Real Madrid and Arsenal man.


The Giallorossi medical staff are less optimistic and are predicting at least three weeks on the sidelines.


Considering the break for international duty, this means Julio Baptista should be ready to face Inter in the big match on October 19.


The problem is in the short-term, though, as David Pizarro, Juan and Max Tonetto are out against Genoa in the midweek round.


Philippe Mexes is well on the road to recovery and was on the bench as a precautional measure last night.

Roman relief over Aquilani Monday 22 September, 2008

Roma can breathe a sigh of relief as the thigh injury Alberto Aquilani sustained over the weekend isn't serious.

Aquilani scored a superb goal as Roma found their feet with a 3-0 win over Reggina at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

But there were fears over the Azzurri midfielder's health when he reported a pain in his thigh during training on Sunday.

After tests at the Giallorossi medical facility in Villa Stuart this morning, Aquilani has been given the green light to play against Genoa on Wednesday evening.

Matteo Brighi, who played excellently against Reggina, is ready to start if Luciano Spalletti chooses not to risk Aquilani.

French summer signing Jeremy Menez and ex-Chievo man Simone Perrotta are also hoping for starting shirts.
