Aquilani close to signing new deal...

Quote:
Aquilani To Finally Pen Fresh Deal
According to Tuttosport, Alberto Aquilani is set to finally sign a new contract at the club after Roma improved their salary offer.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico, as talks to renew his current contract, which runs out in 2010, have not been going well.

Aquilani has been asking for around €2.5m in wages per year, but until now Roma have only been willing to offer €1.5m.

This has led to interest from a host of top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Arsenal, and in particular Juventus, who have launched a number of transfer bids, and have promised the player a salary of €3m.

However, the Corriere says that Roma have finally come up with an offer that satisfies Aquilani, and indeed club directors Daniele Prade and Bruno Conti have told the player’s father that he will be offered a new five-year deal worth around €2.25m per season.

Roma director Bruno Conti has no doubts that Aquilani will be staying in the Italian capital, and told the Corriere dello Sport: “There are no doubts. Alberto will remain in Giallorosso.”

Aquilani made 21 Serie A appearances last term, scoring three goals.

Luckily that he is Roman born or he would be off to Juve or Inter earning 3m a season...but, Roma need to keep him happy...he's one of the franchise players over the next 10 years.

I think it's a statement...if he earns as much as DDR, then that plays a part to who the next leader of the team is...him earning slightly less, gives the edge to DDR.

Yea....i think the Sensi's know they can't afford to lose Aquilani...at least not at this point. I hope he gets to play this season and Roma bullshitting him about a regular starting role...or he will be pissed and leave for Juve.

Depends on the formation...Spalletti loves Pizarro...so unless they play with 3 DMs, he likely won't get a start, but i think he will.

Spalletti: Aquilani has a price Saturday 26 July, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luciano Spalletti has told Juventus they can swoop for Alberto Aquilani if they meet the right price. “If a club comes and pays, you can’t do much about it.”

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport continues its coverage of a potential Bianconeri interest for the midfielder with some new comments from the Roma Coach.

“Aquilani is an important player just like the others, although a little more considering his age and the role he plays within the club. As far as I am concerned, he’s staying,” he told news agency ANSA.

“Having said that, based on the money you can get for them, all players are interchangeable…”

Aquilani has been at the centre of a contract renewal row for several months and there is no sign of a conclusion.

Although Juve have announced they will not be making any more signings this season, it is widely reported that will change if they qualify for the Champions League proper.

After the preliminary round the Bianconeri could renew their interest in Inter’s Dejan Stankovic or make an audacious bid for Aquilani.

“If a club comes, pays the price and takes away the player, there really isn’t very much you can do about it,” shrugged Spalletti.

Roma know all too well that isn’t necessarily the case, as this week they saw their £18m offer for Adrian Mutu rejected by Fiorentina.

well the man is right, hand over £20m and you can take him where ever you want.i know any amount of money cant replace him but as spalletti pointed out every one is interchangeable and its up to the club to ensure the players remain interested and loyal to their respective owners.

but as he also said aquilani is important part of our club so doubt we will roll and give over just easily.
