That's almost as unlikely as Aquilani in my opinion.

They're similar players, the only difference is that Motolivo plays further forward (and sometimes in wide areas).

Its all about wages and such. I'm not really sure what Fiorentina are going to do...how their finances are?

But I think in the end, Inter will develop their own Italians, that is the best option.

Obviously the likes of Fiorentina and Roma can't compete with Inter for wages, that could be the key.

Neither of those players would be let go very cheaply though so I could see you going for other options.

Alberto Aquilani is not interested in leaving hometown club Roma, his representative has commented.

The Azzurri international is widely regarded as the future of Italian football and a host of Europe’s top clubs have been associated with a swoop.

But Franco Zavaglia has today assured Giallorossi fans that the capital-born starlet only has eyes for the Giallorossi.

“Aquilani has made it clear on a number of occasions already – he wants to stay at Roma,” Zavaglia noted.

“Alberto, along with Daniele De Rossi, represents the future of the club for the next decade.”

Inter were heavily linked with a bid for the former Under-21 international before Christmas, but the agent insists that leaving Rome is not on the player’s agenda.

“The player’s own desire and how much the club want to invest in him is what will determine his future,” Zavaglia continued.

“The fact that the Roman public love him will not matter when we go and discuss his contract, it just depends on what both parties want.

“It’s clear that Alberto is liked by European and Italian clubs, but the Inter rumours seem journalistic. I’m not aware of any Inter offer.

“Aquilani’s contract expires in 2010 and there is no rush or an appointment for talks. We’ll just wait for Roma to make their move as we have great faith in them.”

Aquilani, who rejected Chelsea as a teen, is now hoping to regain his top form in a bid to make Italy’s Euro 2008 squad.

Aquilani returns for Roma Friday 11 January, 2008

Midfield starlet Alberto Aquilani is back in action for Roma and he wants to make an impact for the second-placed side.

Aquilani made a superb start to the campaign, but he limped off in the Giallorossi’s October 2 Champions League defeat against Manchester United.

The 23-year-old’s thigh injury has seen him sidelined for over three months, but he has finally returned to training and is ready to help the capital club try and claw back Inter’s seven-point advantage at the top of the table.

“We must play our own campaign and not get down on ourselves,” Aquilani explained to Il Romanista.

“Of course I know that it will be more difficult to catch Inter than it will be to keep ahead of Juventus. But I think that we should at least secure second place.

“Perhaps Inter have lots of injuries, but they also have a really deep squad.

“I think that Inter have something more than the other sides – they have a close-knit squad, a great Coach and super players

“We are behind and we can only hope for them to slip up. Inter don’t falter lightly but we have had blips.”

Aquilani concluded by commenting on his personal ambitions for the coming year and the possibility of representing Italy at Euro 2008 or the Olympics in China.

“The Olympics are a huge experience because they give you the chance to learn a type of discipline outside football,” he stated.

“As for Totti, Francesco has already said no to Roberto Donadoni and I think it’s right that he doesn’t go to Beijing either.

“I’m hoping to play as much as possible to convince Donadoni to take me to Euro 2008.”

Aquilani considers Inter switch Sunday 10 February, 2008

Luciano Spalletti admits there is some truth in the rumours Alberto Aquilani is considering a move to Inter, but Steven Gerrard could block his path.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported this weekend that the Nerazzurri intend to sign a midfield dynamo to celebrate their centenary year.

While President Massimo Moratti has his sights set on Liverpool and England hero Gerrard, it is claimed Roberto Mancini would much prefer Aquilani.

The key to snapping up either of the two, but particularly the Roma star, would be unsettled hitman Adriano, currently rediscovering his form on loan at Sao Paolo.

Aquilani, like teammates Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi, is a Romanista born and bred who worked his way up through the youth system to the Under-21 and senior Azzurri squads.

However, there seems to be more than mere newspaper talk behind these latest rumours of an Inter switch.

“He is a good player and will become a great one,” commented Coach Spalletti after last night’s 2-0 win over Reggina.

“I am convinced Aquilani has an excellent relationship with everyone here, but at the end of the day it is the player’s will that makes the difference in these matters. Besides, Roma have other great players.”

Aquilani played the entire 90 minutes against Reggina on Saturday evening, his first full game in over four months due to a serious muscular injury.

Aquilani will stay, says Sensi Friday 7 March, 2008

Roma managing director Rosella Sensi has moved to reject the notion that Alberto Aquilani will leave the club.

The young Roman midfielder has been continuously linked with a transfer to both Inter and Milan.

Aquilani was outstanding in the Giallorossi’s second round Champions League victory at Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old hit the woodwork and threatened Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a number of occasions as La Magica went on to win 4-2 on aggregate at the Bernabeu.

“I have an extremely good rapport with Milan,” remarked Sensi. “But Aquilani will never go away.”

Aquilani, who was a doubt to start in Spain, is optimistic that his performance will cement his place in the team.

“I hope I have done everything to convince the gaffer,” Alberto told Sky Italia.

The daughter of Roma President Franco Sensi, Rosella was proud of the Giallorossi’s second consecutive qualification to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

“We have carried Italian football forward in Europe with great elegance, style and superiority,” she noted.

“I am content for my father and our splendid fans. Each and every one of us deserves this.”

The next star ready to file the paperwork is Aquilani, the homegrown midfielder who is of strong interest to Arsenal and Inter.

Alberto Aquilani is “flattered” by reported interest from Arsenal, but he is completely dedicated to the Roma cause.

The gifted midfield starlet has become a pivotal figure for the Giallorossi and is seen as a foundation for the future of the club.

However, Aquilani’s agent Vincenzo Morabito claimed on Monday that Arsenal had opened talks for the 23-year-old.

“I can only say that I am flattered,” the Azzurri talent told the Corriere dello Sport.

“According to speculation I have already gone to two or three of the mentioned sides.

“But I have a deal at Roma until 2010. I am a part of this Giallorossi team and no other sides matter. Talk of a move makes no sense.”

Aquilani was named in Roberto Donadoni’s provisional 24-man squad for Euro 2008 yesterday and his value is currently estimated at around £15m.

Arsenal are looking to rebuild their midfield after the departure of Mathieu Flamini to Milan on a free transfer and may be preparing for the loss of Alexander Hleb, who has been widely linked with a move to Inter this summer.
