Such a loss...you can tell hes not out there..Pizarro is ok but there is deff a presence missing in the midfield..I wouldnt risk him until late nov early dec unless we REALLY need him out there at that point

Aquilani’s Roma devotion Tuesday 4 December, 2007

Alberto Aquilani’s agent insists that the Roma midfielder is staying put and reveals that he once rejected advances from a Premier League side.

The 23-year-old is one of Italy’s most highly rated young stars and he is becoming a talisman for his hometown club.

Aquilani is currently sidelined with a long-term thigh injury, but is hoping to return to action in the near future.

“Alberto is doing well and he is looking to recover from this injury as quickly as possible as it interrupted a period of good form,” Franco Zavaglia told Romanews.

“Aquilani’s contract expires in 2010. There has been no contact with the club regarding a new deal and it’s too early to talk about it.

“But he wants to stay with Roma for as long as possible. At the age of 16, Alberto refused Chelsea’s advances when he was the talented leader of the Primavera side.”

Aquilani ‘snubs’ Inter approach Wednesday 19 December, 2007


Alberto Aquilani’s agent has cooled speculation that Inter could tempt Roma into selling him at the end of the season.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport leads with the story that the Italian champions will target the exciting playmaker come the end of the campaign.

Although Franco Zavaglia has admitted that the Nerazzurri are one of numerous sides keen on his client, a Giallorossi exit would be hard to complete.

“Alberto has always been liked and is still liked by a number of outfits,” Zavaglia told Radio Radio on Wednesday.

“It’s not a surprise to me that he is admired by Inter as a club, boss Roberto Mancini and his technical staff.

“Can he resist an Inter offer? For now Alberto is just thinking about getting fit again after injury. Once that happens, perhaps we can sit down and think about what may happen in the future.

“But Aquilani has a contract with Roma until 2010 and I want to remind everyone what [Roma chief] Rosella Sensi said recently.

“She made it quite clear that while the Sensi family own the club then Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Aquilani won’t be moving.”

All three players, born and bred in the capital, are successful graduates from the Giallorossi youth sector.

Roma are set to start contract extension talks with Aquilani soon, with reports suggesting they will offer £1.4m a season. Inter would be able to offer the 23-year-old double that figure.

Aquilani, who rejected Chelsea as a teen, is hoping to regain his top form in a bid to make Italy’s Euro 2008 squad.

Inter Ready To Take Advantage Of Aquilani Confusion
Inter Milan are lining up a swoop for Alberto Aquilani after the midfielder’s contract talks with Roma hit difficulties.

The 23-year-old is one of the most promising young players in Italy and is seen as a future regular for the national team.



His contract with the Giallorossi expires in 2010 and the Gazzetta dello Sport says that he is unhappy with the club’s £1.4m-a-year offer to renew his deal.



Inter boss Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of Aquilani and will make a bid for the player if contract negotiations completely collapse.



The Nerazzurri currently have an injury crisis in midfield, with Olivier Dacourt, Luis Figo, Patrick Vieira and Dejan Stankovic all sidelined.



However enticing Aquilani to San Siro may prove a difficult task. The schemer is Roma through-and-through, having been born in the city and having grown up in the Giallorossi youth system.



Indeed a couple of weeks ago Aquilani’s agent Franco Zavaglia stated that his client wanted to stay at the club for as long as possible.

I dont think he will be leaving but we must address our cap system.we've lost quite possibly Cassano Chivu and hopefully not Mancini to this cap of ours.I really dont want to see Aquilani leave.He is the present and future.

With him and DDR our midfield really is dynamic and balanced.I dont think he will be leaving.

Inter wanted Daniele as well.Hopefully they dont go plucking our players away.

The problem is simple really, I think Inter needs more Italian representation.

DDR is out of the question. Aquilani....I'm not holding my breath. However I have seen stranger things.

If he leaves it'll be abroad, I can't see him moving to Inter.

The other option is Riccardo Montolivo, and I think he is more of a target than Aquilani, but you never know.
