[#2]Panucci: Milan to poach Panucci?
Quote:
Christian Panucci admits his pride has kept him out of the Italy squad, but hopes to shelve his feud with Marcello Lippi for the World Cup.
“When we were together at Inter, I admit I didn’t collaborate much with Lippi,” confessed the Roma defender.
“He made some mistakes too. In the last two months, we literally didn’t speak to each other and I was the one who refused to open the channels of communication. It was an error, one of many that were made that year, because our reciprocal pride drove a wedge between us.”
The feud between the two men has been common knowledge since Panucci walked out on Inter for a move to Monaco in 2000 and has carried on following Lippi’s appointment to the Italy post.
Panucci hasn’t represented his country since the 2-1 win over Bulgaria in June 2004, seemingly ending a career that saw six goals and 70 caps. However, he leaves a sliver of hope that the Lippi row could be shelved for the World Cup this summer.
“If I should continue playing well, then I hope Lippi will call me for the Italy squad, although I am not used to asking anyone for help. If he brings me along to Germany, then that’ll be because I earned it. If he doesn’t, then that’s fine with me.”
Panucci has been contributing to an incredible surge in form for Roma over the last few weeks and some have suggested that Antonio Cassano’s move to Real Madrid opened the floodgates for five consecutive Serie A victories and Thursday’s shock 3-2 Coppa Italia win at Juventus.
“Cassano wasn’t happy recently and didn’t want to be part of the squad, so he’d isolate himself and I think he was right to leave,” he told Sky Italia.
“Antonio has a strong personality and I think it’s true to a degree that his unhappiness affected the rest of the players. But it is not right to say Roma’s problems were purely tied up in Cassano’s situation.”

in regards to the last 2 paragraphs, no sh!t he isolated himself from the team, the team (management) isolated him! also, ive read alot of posts online from roma fans who are conviently naming cassano as the scapegoat for their 1st half of the season troubles. how can u seriously say that? he didn't play, literally, your better of saying we played sh!tty cause of no cassano on the field, not that his attitude was harmful to the team, which is bull$hit. if that was the case, your undiscplined captain could be blamed, since he is the leader of the team, and is not leading by example ie: red cars, etc (I DONT BELIEVE THIS, im just using it as an example to demonstrate how ridicolous your having cassano as a scapegoat is.)

Ah, don't need him. However if he continues to play well, he should be considered, as with all Italian players, it would be foolish not too.

I think you do need him. It's been England's attitude to our detriment I feel that we don't need cover for Gary Neville when we certainly do...the last thing anyone wants is Mills at 2002 all over again. Panucci deserves to be in the squad, he's not put a foot wrong and he should be first choice cover, you can't built a successful team without experience at the back.

You have a point, however Panucci is in the Roma squad so he'd had an insight. Cassano was the life and soul of the team at times but with the falling out with the management he helped to isolate himself. Not that it'c totally his fault but by his own admission he has said he needs to take some of the blame. Also, the squad started to go out for meals together but he wasn't there, they spent new years together and he wasn't there. He was best mates with Totti but this deteoriated. I think it's upfair to blame Cassano but as i've said before with his departure other aspects haunting the team also left.
(It's sort of the opposite to the 1st russian revolution of 1917 where they all assumed that because the Tsar went all the problems went as well, when in fact they didn't. With cassano going it lifted some of the attention and pressure of the squad to with him the bad run, loss of form etc all went as well)
Totti is a great captain by the way.

but the mistakes he makes are costly ie: roma/juve, nedved's goal which gave us the lead after a half of play which was in roma's favour.

well if you know the answer why do you care so much. he's gone and lets leave it at that.
as for pannuci he is really trying to put the fued between lippi and himself behind him. i think he should be called up. do we really want zaccardo playing....

come on man when was his last red card ( and dont bring up the veron BS cause that was just garbage...on verons part that is ) he's leading well this year you have to admit that. he's kept his cool even when battling nesta and stam at the same time. really de rossi put it best since getting married and being a father he has been more calm. i know your a rival team but we are technically talkin about the azzuri as well ( holy crap theres a huge spider beside me...wtf ) sorry bout that...anyways to make things short pannuci for the azzuri i think would be good.

i really dont want to talk about him now that he is gone but a 9 game win streak in all competitions with out him...doesnt happy by luck. something changed in the locker room. not saying that cassano is at fault at all since i do like him but i did lose some respect for the guy cause he didnt even say bye to the team. when you spend 5 years with a team the least you can flippin do is say good bye. your rite it is an example and really people who blame cassano for EVERY single thing that went wrong are tottally outta of it and are just clutching at straws. in the end its a team game. one guy cant ruin a whole team. who knows what really happened.
anyways your rite about zambrotta on the right and grosso on the left forgot about that. he's a good bench player if grosso doesnt work or if lippi wants to put in a winger in the midfield. sure his defence is questionable but it pays off on the other end of the field a bit more though.

[#2] Panucci to play until 40?
He'd considered seeing out his career with Genoa but it looks like he'll stay with Roma now.

yea, he has become a leader on the team and a reliable veteran...he's still very well with his crosses into the box and can still preform at an elite level for a couple more years!
PS-like ur new picture of Del Piero!

Panucci has again spoken of his desire to remain at Roma after he scored the winning goal against Valencia tonight.

Christian Panucci believes in Scudetto
Glad to see the Roma squad are still focused on the Scudetto and not given up as of yet....
