Abramovich goes Roman
Wow..if this turns out to be true...incredible. :shock: :shock:
Some newspapers are suggesting that the man behind the Russian takeover bid of AS Roma is Roman Abramovich.
Director of Sport Franco Baldini has publicly confirmed that there have been negotiations with oil group Nafta Moskva, but the press in Russia maintains that isn’t the whole story.
Abramovich is relishing his success with Chelsea and seemingly aims to expand his interest in football by taking over the Giallorossi as well.
President Franco Sensi has made it clear he is ready to sell up now that old age, ill health and mounting debts are weighing on his mind.
If Abramovich – who was also linked with a massive investment in crisis hit Parma earlier this year – is indeed behind this bid, then he would be able to keep their current crop of stars.
The financial crisis at the club could well otherwise force the summer sale of Emerson, a target for Abramovich’s Chelsea last season, and Francesco Totti.
Above all, a new owner would be able to strengthen an already competitive squad with new arrivals such as Edgar Davids, Auxerre’s Philippe Mexes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hatem Trabelsi of Ajax.
Meanwhile, it is also reported in the Italian press that Fabio Capello could take on a new role as a future President of the Capital club.
The Coach is tied to his role until 2005 with a contract worth £2.7m per season, but has always left a question mark over his future.
