History Behind the Logo

Romolus and Remus

Many writers have told the story of the twins. They say, that near the Tiber banks, an old shepherd and his wife Faustolo and Laurenzia, lived in a poor shed.
One evening a tired Faustolo was sitting near the shed door and Laurenzia was preparing a meal. Suddenly they heard a rustle coming from the woods. Near the river a dark shadow slid down the bank.
Faustolo decided to go and see what had happened. He told his wife to wait for him. He moved forward with caution, because the ground near the river was full of puddles because of the recent rains. In one of these puddles at the foot of a tree, Faustolo saw a big she-wolf lying down on one side with two children sucking her milk.

He thought he was dreaming. He went back to the shed and told his astonished wife about the she-wolf and the twins, and then he took her to the river. Some time later the two children, were sleeping in Faustolo and Laurenzias warm shed. Here they grew up and became two strong boys, a little savage but good boys. Faustolo called them Romulus and Remus; they respected him as a father. Everyday they went farther and farther from the shed to seek adventure......

Once Romulus and Remus had grown up they founded a new town.
But who would decide the name?
They decided to watch the flight of the birds: the first who had seen the greatest number of birds would have given the name to the town. Romolo was luckier, and he took a plough and marked out about the town's perimeter on the Palatine Hill. He called it Roma (Rome). It was April 21st, 753 years before Christ.
The foundation of the new town marked the end of Remus. It had been decided that no-one could pass the boundary without permission of Romulus. But Remus for envy or in fun, jumped over it and laughing said:"Look! Its so easy!"
Romulus full of wrath, flung himself on Remus, took up a sword and killed him, shouting that anyone who had insulted the name of Rome was to die.
Romulus, ruled the town wisely. One day during a storm, he disappeared, carried off by the god Mars.

AS Roma has won three Italian Championships (Scudetto), seven Italian Cups (Coppa Italia) in 1963-64, 1968-69, 1979-80, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86, and 1990-91; the Supercoppa Italiana in 2001, and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup once in 1960-61, defeating Birmingham City. In 1984 AS Roma lost the final match of the European Cup, played in Rome, against Liverpool F.C., after a penalty shootout.

Anyone else think its wierd that there is not much yellow in our jerseys anymore? Its more orange...or goldenrod? or something?

I like our jerseys this season. Besides the v neck. i like circled neck better. But in terms of the yellow, there is less, but i don't like too much yellow anyways.

yup, majority if from there...but took forever to edit it and remove all the charts and tables they had. Thought it would be a good reference to have.

I think i like the v neck the most....The 05-06 jersey was the best though, with the yellowish orange lines running all the way down the right side...Those are sweet...ive been trying to find one FOREVER and i cant find one anywhere...I have the 04-05 Jerseys though.

Roma were born in 1927 from the fusion of three different clubs - Alba, Fortitudo and Roman. A fine record in the 1930s eventually led to the first Giallorossi Scudetto in 1942.

Difficult years followed until their one and only relegation in 1951. With an immediate return to the top flight, Roma quickly captured a third place and the 1961 UEFA Cup. The Coppa Italia came in 1964, the first of seven in this competition.

Roma’s most glorious years were the 1980s as aside from the two Italian Cups, the club’s second Scudetto was lifted by Coach Nils Liedholm in 1983. The following year only a penalty shoot-out against Liverpool at the Stadio Olimpico kept them from winning the European Cup.

Fabio Capello’s Roma led the 2000-01 Serie A table from start to finish for their third Scudetto and the club’s first medal in a decade.

The Giallorossi were handed a Champions League spot after a superb season including a record-breaking run of 11 consecutive wins. Luciano Spalletti will look to work his magic again as his side start the season as Inter’s main rivals.
