FRANCO SENSI 1926 - 2008: Ce' Solo Un Presidente
Quote:
Roma Head Franco Sensi Is Dead
AS Roma chairman Franco Sensi this evening passed away at the age of 82. Sky television informed Italy that the Roma president died of a serious illness on Sunday night, much to the regret of Romanistas everywhere...

The Roma president was found dead late Sunday evening in the Italian capital. Franco Sensi became the leader of Roma in 1993, and during his presidency the club won the Scudetto in 2001.
Sensi was a pure Roman, born there on July 19, 1926 and lived in the city his entire life. He acquired most of his wealth as an entrepreneur in the oil, tourism and publishing sectors.
Franco Sensi became President of Roma in May of 1993, and the sole owner of the club in November of that year. During his presidency the club won a Scudetto in 2001 under coach Fabio Capello. The club also won two Italian Super Cups (2001 and 2007), and two Coppa Italia trophies (2007 and 2008) during Sensi's reign.
Since 2004, due to his illness, Franco Sensi rarely took control of the day-to-day operations of the club. Instead his daughter, Rosella Sensi, became the effective president of the Giallorossi and Franco Sensi took the role of Honorary Chairman.
In May 2008 he was presented with an "Ethics in Sport" award, due to his work with the Giallorossi and his outstanding sporting values.
He died in the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome. Roma and football fans worldwide will certainly be mourning the loss of one of calcio's most renowned and respected figures.

Tributes Flood In As Calcio Mourns Sensi's Demise
The unfortunate passing of Roma chairman Franco Sensi has seen several clubs to express their condolences to the club, their fans and the Sensi family...

Sensi was found dead late Sunday evening and the Calcio community is clearly affected by the loss, as several sides are offering their sympathies.
A statement on Milan's official website read:
"Milan mourn the disappearence of Franco Sensi, president of A.S. Roma since 1993, protagonist of the last Scudetto won by Roma in the 2000/2001 season. Franco Sensi died at the age of 82 in Rome, where he lived. Under his guidance Roma have won 1 Scudetto, two Coppa Italias (2006/2007 and 2007/2008), and two Italian Supercups (2001 and 2007). The Rossoneri club also send their condolences to his wife Flora and daughter Rosella, and the entire Roma club."
Juventus also were empathetic to the unfortunate situation:
"Juventus wishes to remain close to Rome due to the death of president Franco Sensi. During this evening died the chairman of Roma Franco Sensi.
In this tragic moment, Juventus is close to the family and Giallorossi society as a whole."
Despite being one of Roma's major rivals over the past couple of seasons, Inter of course also offered their condolences through their website:
"The President Massimo Moratti and all of F.C. Internazionale are close to the Sensi family and throughout the AS Roma club due to the death of Franco Sensi, president, and a great man of Italian football."
More tributes are expected over the next few days as the football world begins to mourn the loss of a truly committed football icon in the Italian capital.

Roma chief Sensi dies Monday 18 August, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma’s talismanic President Franco Sensi has died at the age of 82 after a glorious reign at the Stadio Olimpico.
Petrol magnate Sensi took over the Giallorossi in November 1993 and presided over a very successful period.
Under his command, Roma won the Scudetto in 2000-01, two Italian Super Cups in 2001 and 2007 and lifted the Coppa Italia in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
In May 2008, Sensi was presented with an “Ethics in Sport” award for the sporting values he demonstrated in his work with Roma.
The Lupi’s longest-serving supremo had been ill for a long time, leaving daughter Rosella to take over the day-to-day running of the club.
Just a day before the presentation of Julio Baptista, Sensi passed away quietly in the night at the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome.
The Brazilian forward will now be one final parting gift for the Roma faithful from a man who will never be forgotten.

Fabio Capello AS Roma Manager 1999-2004
Quote:
Capello Pays Respect To Franco Sensi
England coach Fabio Capello has paid tribute to Roma’s Franco Sensi who passed away on Sunday evening.

The former Giallorossi president was suffering from illness for quite some and his battle to live finally came to an end at the weekend.
Sensi was the man who brought Capello to the capital in 1999 and the coach won the club its first Scudetto since 1983 during his five year spell at the Olimpico.
The England tactician has now paid tribute to Sensi and he has described the time under him as ‘beautiful’.
“It was a beautiful five years and I have some great memories of Franco, he was a great man,” Capello told Rai TG Sport.
“He was a very good person, serious, capable and strong. He was always able to transmit these qualities also and he used to pass his capabilities to the team.”
Under his chairmanship, Roma won one Scudetto, two Coppa Italia’s and two Supercoppe Italiane.
Rosella Sensi has been running the club since her father stopped because of illness.

Antonio Cassano AS Roma forward 2001 - 2005
Quote:
Cassano Mourns Sensi Loss
Former Roma hit-man Antonio Cassano has paid his respects to Franco Sensi, who passed away on Sunday night.

Cassano played for Roma between 2001 and 2006 and Il Talentino di Bari has expressed his sadness upon hearing the news that his old president is no longer around.
“I am very hurt. Sensi was always close to me and I had a lovely relationship with him which went beyond the pitch. It’s a great loss for Roma,” said Cassano.
The Sampdoria man's exit from Roma was born from the fact that he verbally abused the Sensi family with a number of accusations. Cassano was told to apologise but he didn’t and thus he was quickly sold to Real Madrid in 2006.
The Giallorossi paid a whopping €28m for the player in 2001 and he scored 39 goals in 118 appearances for them during his time there.

Francesco Totti AS Roma Attacking-Midfielder/Forward 1993-Present, Captain since 1998
Quote:
Totti Pays Tribute To Sensi
Roma captain Francesco Totti talked about his sadness following the passing of president Franco Sensi last night.

Roma captain Francesco Totti paid his respects to his president Franco Sensi, who passed away last night at the age of 82. Sensi was the most successful chairman in Roma's history, having won one Scudetto (2001), two Italian Supercups (2001 and 2007), and two Coppa Italias (2007 and 2008).
"The passing of Sensi has brought a deep sense of pain," Totti said. "We have lost a crucial reference point in the history of Roma and of football, but most of all a gentleman with real passion.
"He has left us with 15 years of indelible memories in our hearts and minds. Every day I spent with him was memorable but the one that stuck in my mind the most was the day when we celebrated the Scudetto at the Circo Massimo and I saw how happy he was."
"He loved Roma and did so much for this team, and also helped many players on a personal level," the captain concluded.
