Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni’s agent has refuted rumours that the Brazilian custodian is planning to leave the Stadio Olimpico.

The 28-year-old is first choice for Luciano Spalletti’s side, but some sources have suggested that he won’t renew his contract in the Eternal City.

““It’s not true at all that Doni won’t extend his deal,” Mario Miele told Rete Sport.

“I haven’t spoken to the club yet and there isn’t any great hurry because he is used to respecting his contracts.

“For now there is no problem. The current deal expires in 2009 and there’s time to come to an agreement.

“There have been no offers from other clubs – Roma are his first and only choice,” Miele concluded.

I hope we end up getting someone else...i really feel like the goalkeeper position is on of the wink links on the roman side. If we had a world class keeper then i think we would perform better in CL and other club tourneys and big matches

Doni denies 'agent' claims Thursday 22 November, 2007

Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni has caled for an end to speculation over his future and reveals that his 'agent' is an imposter.

The Brazilian shot-stopper was speaking while on international duty with Brazil for their World Cup 2010 qualifier against Uruguay and seemed confused by recent comments attributed to his ‘agent’.

“My contract expires in 2009 and there are no problems with that,” the 28-year-old insisted.

“There isn’t an agent who can speak in my name as my father will be representing me when Roma want to discuss a renewal.”

Doni’s comments have further called into question the complex relationship with Mario Miele, the man who claimed to be the star’s agent on Rete Sport earlier this week.

“I’ve heard talk that I have asked for too much money, but so far I haven’t made any demand from the club and haven’t been offered anything.

“In any case I’ll just stay calm and carry on working hard as usual.”

With the Scudetto dream looking increasingly distant, Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni has set his sights on the Champions League.

The Giallorossi are eight points behind Inter in Serie A, but they have progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Real Madrid next Tuesday.

Madrid star Arjen Robben has insisted that the Merengues will see off Luciano Spalletti’s outfit, but Doni is in a confident mood.

“In the Champions League we are up against the best in Europe, but any side that qualifies for the last 16 can get to the Final, including Roma.

“There are no favourites on paper as all the teams are strong and well equipped with champions.”

Roma face a decisive week as they take on third-placed Juventus on Saturday ahead of Real’s arrival in the Eternal City.

“Winning the League will be extremely difficult,” Doni admitted. “We are having an excellent campaign, but Inter are extraordinary. Nonetheless, we won’t give up until the end.”

Roma and Lazio meet in the Derby della Capitale on Wednesday and Giallorossi 'keeper Alexander Doni wants to win at any cost.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are still chasing glory in the League, Coppa Italia and Champions League as they reach the crucial point of the season.

With Inter starting to show signs of implosion, the Lupi must keep recording victories to put pressure on their six-point deficit, but the Rome derby is a unique occasion.

“All that matters is that we win – it doesn’t matter how,” Doni explained on Sky Sport Italia.

Doni made his Roma debut in a derby on October 23, 2005 – a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

“I didn’t have time to get emotional because Spalletti only told me I was playing two hours before kick-off,” the Brazilian custodian recalled.

“I had only arrived from Brazil a few months before and I didn’t know the atmosphere very well, which was a good thing as it allowed me to stay calm.”

Roma triumphed 3-2 when the two sides met at the end of last October and Doni finished by calling on the fans to get behind them in their ‘away’ fixture.

“All I can say to our supporters is to keep doing what they have done so far. They give us such a warm reception and it really helps us out there on the pitch.

“We will do our best to get the win and it will be dedicated to our fans.”

Alexandre Doni admits new contract talks are on-hold with Roma.

The Brazilian goalkeeper said: "For now there's nothing, they are quiet. I have already spoken with the club, I am sure I will still stay for a long time."

Doni officially staying until 2012. Good news for Roma. Although, some are not favourites of Doni, i think he's definitely a top 5 in Serie A. Behind Buffon, Cesar, Frey.

While Alexander Doni extends his contract until 2012, Alberto Aquilani also pledges his future to Roma.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has officially put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at the Olimpico until June 30, 2012.

His previous contract was set to expire in 2009, but this morning the club and Doni came together to reach an agreement based on a rising salary starting from £1.5m per season net plus bonuses.

Alexander Doni hopes playing without protective headgear sends a sign that “Roma are not afraid of Lazio.”

The goalkeeper was a doubt for Sunday night’s derby after he was stretchered off during the 1-1 draw with Bologna, having been accidentally kicked in the back of the head by Marco Di Vaio.


He was set to use a Petr Cech style helmet for his first game back, but opted against it.


“It is absolutely not true that I’m wearing the headgear. You need to be accustomed to it to wear a protection like that,” he told newspaper Il Messaggero.


“I was pretty scared when it happened, but now I am keeping hold of my bandages and five stitches, so I’ll play like that.”


Roma need all the courage they can find, as they go into the Derby della Capitale a staggering 14 points behind rivals Lazio – albeit with a game in hand.


“I don’t think the table counts for anything in this match. We are behind them, but when you step on to the field for a game like the derby, it all starts from scratch.


“This is where your quality counts more than the current standings. We have more confidence than before, thanks to the win over Chelsea.”


It has been the Giallorossi’s worst start in three decades, but Doni believes the key is entirely physical.


“The main reason for our lack of results has been the number of injuries. It isn’t easy to be out of action for a long while, come back and immediately give your best.


“A draw would not be enough for us on Sunday, we need all three points to get back on track.”
