Apparently he played well against Turkey last night, he'll be off to the Copa America it seems.

Default Doni Thread

Anyone see Doni play like crap in the copa america tonite? I did! Thats why i dont like him...he makes stupid mistakes...that free kick never should have gotten by him...he was leadning over trying to see the free kick worrying about the far post against a left footed kicker who was obviolsy going to bend it in near post...then the guy kicks it and Doni doesnt even bother moving. Very remenicient(sp) of the Man United CL game we got wrecked in.

Sorry to trash him, but this is why i just dont like him...if you disagree and hate the thread, then delete it idc...just wanted to share my frustrations about him

i feel that some people dont give Doni enough credit.
May i remind you that Roma have never been famous for GKs?

Everyone expects too much of Doni...when he makes great saves which no one appreciates, he overlooked.
But when he lets in a goal suddenly hes the bad guy.
Why dont you guys ever blame the defence? Why is it always Doni at fault?

I think hes a great keeper that is young and has already a lot of experience at such a young age, and will benefit Roma.

Heres a thought to part with...if Doni was so crap like you say...why would the Brazilian national team pick him above others? There are many Brazilian GK out there...but the coach decided to opt for our Doni, and theres a reason behind it.

Because doni freezes up...watch the goal from the copa america match tonite...and youll see what i mean, he did the same thing in CL...ya defense needs to be good for the keeper to be good, but he makes to many stupid mistakes...The only reason Doni was fielded tonite was becuase Brazil had a B team on the field. Which is why they lost to MEXICO

Mexico also wanted this win FAR more, to judge by their performance. Mexico put their heart and soul into it, Brazil (B team or not) barely bothered to try.

Neither goal was really due to a Doni mistake. On the first one, he made a very decent attempt but was just unlucky for the ball to not end up being where it looked like it would be after he'd already commited himself to diving for it. On the second one, it's true he just stood there, but I was watching that part of the game in a pub full of Mexico fans and we all had this sort of delayed-reaction "WHOA! (clap clap clap)" when it went in. No one watching thought it was going in-- it looked like it was on the outside of the post-- so I think it's fair to say that Doni probably didn't think it was going in either, especially seeing his reaction once it did.

And honestly if it weren't for Doni scrambling around on the ground to miraculously save that one in the second half that nearly went in a few times, Mexico could have been up 3-0. Not the most graceful of saves, but it worked.

You can't blame him for the freekick goal.

He had his side of the goal covered, if anyone's to blame it was the wall.

Copa: Misery for Roma duo
Thursday 28 June, 2007
Roma stars Juan and Alexander Doni suffered a dreadful start to their Copa America campiagn as holders Brazil slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Mexico.

The Samba boys, who were missing several stars including Milan’s Kaka, struggled to click and fell behind thanks to a superb individual effort from Olympiakos striker Nery Castillo.

The 23-year-old talent got the better of the Giallorossi’s new acquisition Juan and Doni, lofting the ball over the hapless pair before turing home.

Eight minutes later, Doni was beaten again by an unstoppable Ramon Morales free-kick from the edge of the box.

While Juan’s place in the side looks assured, the Giallorossi custodian now faces a nervous wait to see whether Selecao boss Dunga chooses to replace him with Porto ‘keeper Helton. Brazil must now bounce back against Chile on July 1.

So far it has been a miserable tournament for Italy-based players, with Alvaro Recoba’s Uruguay unexpectedly thumped 3-0 by Peru in the opening game.

Tonight’s action sees Crotone striker Dante Lopez of Paraguay take on Ivan Cordoba’s Colombia and a host of Inter stars take to the field for Argentina against the USA.

Brazil plays again on July 1 against Chile. Maybe Doni and Juan will get another chance to shine. I'm going to try to watch the game and see how Juan and Doni play. I like Doni, but he stinks on set pieces. Everyone has their faults.
